Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee forced the delay of a vote on Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch on Monday. The one-week delay in sending the nomination to the full Senate comes as the partisan battle lines over his final confirmation votes begin to harden.

At least 19 Democrats have come out in opposition to Gorsuch and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has said that he will filibuster the nominee, which means he'll force a 60-vote threshold once it clears the committee.

So, here we go. Looks like the D's are actually going to try & deny Gorsuch a seat on the SC. Why? Good question. Because during the hearing, they really didn't unmask any hidden skeletons in his closet or come up with any real legal reason to oppose him. I've heard Schumer and others bemoan he's "extreme", "out of the mainstream", "he doesn't care about the little guy" and other typical BS quips in their playbook, but substance reasons....not so much.
So, I guess it will come down to what McConnell can do, or will do. (Now that's a comforting thought, right? ).

Bad situation all the way around...for the Dems, for McConnell, for Gorsuch...for the nation.

But sometimes these things just gotta happen. There were Democratic constituencies that were demanding Schumer not just lay down and allow a walk over.

Too bad. But that's the way politics operate in the US right now.

As I have stated on other parts of this site, Neil Gorsuch is a bad pick for just a couple out of the multiple reasons.

    1. He is a originalist.
    2. He sided with Hobby Lobby and Little Sisters of the Poor, instead of the sensible contraceptive mandate.

Reason people would actually want this guy, let alone even elect him as a judge for any one district locally, is beyond me. Opposing him is as clear as day.

    Time for the nuclear option.

The Dems opened this door in 2013 and set the precedent, now they can choke on it.

We need to stack the court with conservatives in order to protect the nation from the rabid anti-American practices of the radical Left.

Obstruction, at all costs. Not a smart move as there are a lot of people in states that Trump won that want this nomination to go through. Better for the Democrats to get behind him, show you are a good lawmaker and then live to fight another day.

He goes through no matter what.

Well, guess you needed to inform your D buddies who unanimously voted for him for the Fed Court.

They did it to keep Republicans at bay.

No sensible person would want Gorsuch. At least thinking individuals anyway.

Couple of problems with that option, 1) it will forever be the norm, 2) it will give the D's ammunition to de-legitimize court rulings that don't go their way.
I'm not saying R's shouldn't take it, but there will be consequences if they do. It'll really tip the scales.

That doesn't make sense what they are doing.

No opposition party has ever blocked a supreme court nominee ever.

    the Dems are S##T HEADS

Wrong, most sensible American's would, and do, want him. I understand why you guys who want every law bent to make you feel good, but over time, that's not a very healthy approach.

Republicans need to let the democrats throw their fit. Call them out for it constantly but let them have their fit. The nuclear option will bite repubs in the ass. Let Dems beat their chest, then beat them over the head with their own words.

If it takes 6 months so what, that's just more time to expose Dems for being incompetent boobs. But then republicans are incompetent boobs to so they probably force the nomination through with the nuclear option, further ripping the country apart. Which is what the neoMarxists democrats want anyway

Really? Does Merrick Garland ring a bell? The ultimate block. Just a year ago. Brought to you by the leader of the opposition party.

Only in Leftgoofyworld, would being a Constitutional originalist, be a "bad thing", as well as upholding the very clear right to practice religion, as opposed to just making up whatever bullcrap the left wants to pretend is "law", to serve their deviant agenda.

No. I didn't provide ALL examples of nominations being blocked; just the most recent one. I hate both parties equally, but usually hate the party currently in power, more. So, I had eight years of being pissed off at the Ds, after eight years of being pissed off at the R's....

No matter who is in the WH, I'm usually mad at the way our country is being led.

The main problem "progressives" have with the Constitution is that it is restricts their will to unrestrained power - the Founders and Framers wrote it with people like them in mind.

It follows that progs would consider Constitutional "originalists" a "bad pick"...

This one is going to be a yawner. The Democrats have been scouring Gorsuch but they can't find any dirt on the man at all. It must be a galling experience for them.

There will be no headline surprises, unless it's some fake-news crap that seeps up out of a liberal boiler room featuring, say, some woman who says that he "groped" her forty years ago or some crap like that.... It's a tactic that Democrats especially are adept at, and they may try to pull that rabbit out of a hat. Hopefully, they have more sense, but then again, this IS the political party that nominated a stupid, reckless criminal like Hilarity Clinton to be the President of the United States! Anything's possible.

But, when it's all said and done, what's coming on the Gorsuch confirmation will be as scripted as a 17th-century court minuet, with every move, twitch, and flutter well thought-out in advance....

[IMG]. Somebody make coffee... I'm about to fall asleep....
