    Oh brother! Seriously? Senators should be appointed by state legislators as it says in the constitution, where their role is to represent the interests of the state they are from. The seventeenth amenment is the first great victory of progressive leftist loserism.

    It does not obviously say that in the Constitution anymore.

    And how exactly are they not representing the interests of the state if the people elect them instead of the state legislature?

    Ehhh, while I may not exactly agree with the 17th amendment, it was passed by both parties and ratified by 3/4ths of the states.
