I have never been inside a B-52 and did not bother with this video for weeks. I took the time to view it and it sure is worth seeing. The cockpit still has a full panel. In other sections, secret things were removed. Still it is a good education of where the money is spent and how it works. Who thought the B-52 also has some stealth technology? I was not aware of what it has. So enjoy the video and for those who have been in one, I am interested in what you think of the B-52.
ECM is not really "stealth". In fact, it is very much the opposite. It is basically a giant beacon telling the enemy that an attacking aircraft is in the area. It just made it difficult for them to say exactly where it is. However a civilian airport would not have had the equipment to detect such a use.
I believe I heard the speaker claim the bomber is protected by their stealth technology. Perhaps not all of the B-52 fleet is protected?
He talked about ECM, which is not "stealth". There is some RAM at a few points, but not enough to make any real difference in the RCS of the aircraft.
Good video. When I was in high school I spent a year at the local air base museum to complete my eagle project. Most.of.that was restoring a battle damaged b17. The staff trusted me and gave me the aircraft combo lock codes. I spent maybe a dozen hours in a B52. I'd go everywhere I could get in that thing. Including the 2 level canopy. I also learned to operate the bomb sight which could actually look straight forward. The 50 cal version in this video had a special ammo that was only used on the b52. It had special "high reliability" links because it would be near.impossible to clear a jam or reload a belt.
