Origins of 'Gospel of Jesus's Wife' Begin to Emerge

Obviously there is doubt as to whether Jesus or any of the other New Testament characters were ever real historical individuals, but this is still a fascinating look into the evolution of his mythos at least. And besides, even if Jesus wasn't really a demigod, I wouldn't preclude the possibility that his story might have been based on a real historical individual.

Speaking of his wife Mary Magdalene, one scholar named Lynn Picknett has suggested that not only were she and Jesus in love, but he may have intended her to be her successor. And she might have been an aristocratic woman of African descent.
I haven't had the chance to read Picknett's book yet, so I can't gauge the quality of her scholarship at the moment. But it's a really tempting possibility to me.

Why would Africans be living in Galilee?

Magdalene is from a title which meant "of Magdala". Mary Magdalene, in the New Testament, was named thus because she was from Magdala - a village on the Sea of Galilee whose name meant "tower" in Hebrew.

No, Jesus didn't have a wife. Jesus is to be married to His people: the Children of Israel. If Jesus were married, then it would undermine the message he was carrying in regard to the marriage of the saints.

We don't know whether or not Jesus had a wife.. He was an observant Jew and they married as young men.. That's what Rabbis did.

It doesn't take anything away from Jesus or his message to have been married.

many Christians consider sex and sexual desire to be a sin.

if Jesus married, and (*)(*)(*)(*)ed his wife, that would make Jesus a sinner.

An intriguing idea. The Queen of Sheba was from Ethiopia if remember right. That is quite a distance to travel to meet Solomon.

If he is married to his people, then he is bisexual. Goes both ways. And is a polygamist. Perhaps the Mormons were just copying their savior.

Seriously, it makes no difference if he was married or not. His only importance is that he brought the keys to the inner kingdom, and told the people the truth of reconciliation with god. That upon salvation, we are all sons of god. Once we are no longer ruled over by the originator of sin, the ego, the self, which most spend entire lives gratifying, pursuing every pleasure imaginable, hurting others as we do that.

Most people of course would rather believe in fairy tales, magic blood, for the thing they value the most is the self image, the ego, they cannot bear to let it go. And so that explains why people wanta be with jesus, but they do not want to die to be with him. They will spend lots of time and money trying to live a year or two more. They will fight losing their egos to the last minute, many of them. But boy do they love jesus, someone they do not even know, except for an image their brains created of him.

Man has taken something sacred and turned it into the vulgar. And all because they fear death, and the loss of all that they know and own. A belief system, driven by fear. If people are scared (*)(*)(*)(*)less of something, you can sell them anything. And other people have sold them a bill of goods. If god really wanted you to love him, he would not hold hell over your head in order to get that love. He would not use fear to make you accept him. Where fear is involved, there is a dead rat stinking.

Okay, I always thought she was black. But that would make sense since supposedly Solomon's Mines were someplace in that corner of the Arabian penn.

Solomon really didn't have any mines.. The Egyptians and the Canaanites had mines.. I think Sheba probably was black.. Ethiopia included both Eithiopia and Yemen at the time..

Here's a verse from Song of Solomon 1:5

    King James Bible

I [am] black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. (goat hair tents and curtains are black)

I watch an episode on the history channel titled, "In search of King's Solomon's Mines." That was where they put them. There were graffiti etc on the caves or mines in Hebrew and everything. But these were not gold mines, they were copper. At least according to the show.

Honestly I don't know what Lynn Picknett's evidence is that Mary could have come from Africa. I should e-mail her on that. I have read though that there's also a "Magdala" in Egypt as well as Ethiopia.

He probably was married and his wife was probably not white since he wouldn't have been either.

Well, first, I believe that Jesus was probably Egyptian. Second, evidence suggests lots of racial tones in that whole region from North African, European, and Persian lines mostly.

Mary Magdalene has always been an interesting character since there isn't much said about her but what is said was pretty dramatic. I think there's a guy in Korea who started a version of Christianity based upon a belief that Jesus was going to marry her before he was executed.
