I think housing scarcity enforced by governments is why nations are not peaceful the more I ponder it. I mean why spend on bombs when can make large concerete steel, or giant plastic block filled with concret, or hek steel sheet houses? IF country loaded with this kinda easy living everyone happy and wars unlikely. How far did russia go in this direction? The standard of living claim that usa wins despite dumb brits claiming it and dumb euoes claiming it might have been taken top spot by russia in this case.... wow please let me know how far russia got in this direction!
From what I learned in school, Communist era housing was a mixed bag of fruit. The Stalin era houses were built well and very sturdy - because if they weren't the architect and managers would be exiled to Siberia! The problem was that they didn't seem to be able to build enough houses for everyone. Many people had to build their own houses themselves. After Stalin, the apartment blocks became very poorly built. But much more housing was built. Some buildings were architectural marvels, and excellently built. Most of the other buildings were not.
This thread is in a part of the forum called "politics by region - United States". Now, as much as you may worship Sarah Palin, Russia is not in this region, no matter how well you think it can be seen from her igloo. Commieblocks are generally pretty awful and insufficient though.
