Dr. Lawrence Lessig (a Liberal), makes some sense of why things are (politically speaking) as they are.

Agree or disagree with him; I'm interested in your views.

Enjoy this short talk, if you will.

Am of the opinion that Representative Democracy is doomed to fail, since the representatives always find a way to construct the laws to exempt themselves, and construct national budgets specifically designed to enrich themselves and the cronie friends, associates, and their corporate constituency, via ever more taxation, fees, licensing, and fines, and ever expanding fraudulent services for the poor. Such services, never actually delivering a dime of help to the poor.

They also find it amusing to rewrite contracts, such as full medical care for combat veterans, claiming that a visit to the emergency room is not covered by the Veterans Administration, and sending threatening phone calls to a Vet causing him further anxiety. This is the State of Florida, under Gov.Scott and Republicans. Specifically, Tallahassee, Fl, where Vets continue to live in the woods as homeless, because of cronie welfare corruption barring them help.

Representative government is largely disconnected from the people.

I know Americans are overly "disconnected" right now... but I wonder what one might consider to be an optimal indicator of 'connectivity'.

(Now, I REALLY am going to take a nap.) :)
