Woogs posted this article in the elections section but it should get more hits here. I think it is a realistic outlook of the political landscape in America, and what the candidates, mainstream media, and parties actually represent.

By going Libertarian, Johnson has gone to 0.5%-ville.

I think not. Many Americans are pissed off at both parties and see what they really represent. The republicans are doomed to another 4 years of Obama, which they shouldn't dread so much since the GOP establishment is pushing for more of the same Big Government/Big Crony/anti-Constitution leadership.

    He couldn't get any votes.

Why do you think he'll take any with him?

His % points were so low because he was somewhat unknown and the people who support Ron Paul are not switching over during Republican primaries. I can assure you that they will switch during the main elections, as that article explains.

Do you think that the extremely devout Paulinians will vote for Mitt Romney? I don't think so. They are more pissed off at the Republican party than ever before at this point.

Even if he takes 1% of the GOP canidate, they could swing the outcome in what will be a tight race.

Does Johnson defection doom the GOP?

....yeah if 14 votes determine the outcome.....and all 14 voters were former Republican voters.....which would be doubtful.

True. I always vote 3rd Party for President just because I became fed-up with the 2 parties years ago, but most Americans vote either red or blue. I was encouraged when Perot and Nader got sizable voting percentages, but they got zero Electoral votes.

Perot had enough to be a spoiler.

    Johnson just looks spoiled.

Anyone actually read any part of the article? Ron Paul's campaign and supporters will flock to Gary Johnson. Meaning, it will be way more than 14 voters.

Your GOP is dying and I find it to be a beautiful thing. Now, do something about the democrats...ending welfare should take care of it.

Paul's voters are smarter than that. In the final analysis they'd vote for Zuma the syphilitic camel over Obama.

    Obama's unacceptability trumps all.

They better start attempting to make nice with the Paulinians. Jackasses like Newt Gingrich flapping his third wave jaw doesn't help.

The republican party is split between:
Christian conservatives - they go along to get along with the big gov't cronies, even though they were all about Tea after Obama, the big gov't crony, took over.
Wall St Cronies - those are the ones dealt to you by the media
Those who value liberty and Constitutional principles

I'd prefer that we have at least 5 political parties.

Johnson won't be the guy to break the two party system, but he does give people hope that there's room for a third party.

Perot made quite a lot of progress in that direction.

    Even Nader left his mark.

I don't think it's going to happen, but if Ron Paul gets the nomination, that's going to radically change things in the GOP.

The US system militates against third parties.

What would have happened if Perot had won? All of Congress would have hated his guts.

    GOP is so doomed!

Ron Paul and Gary Johnson have teamed up to destroy the GOP because they are social democrats! Covert operatives for the Obama campaign!
