    They impeached Trump. Generally, that is done to prevent a president from further bad actions ahead of when his administration ends. With a republican senate and just a couple of weeks left in his administration, there was very little change of removing him from office before his term ended.

    The impeachment came down to "We have to impeach him to prevent him from running again."

    That bothers me.. It should not be up to congress to determine who should run for president.

    The people should be determining who runs for president. Not congress.

    Just like with Covid, you do all you possibly can to prevent being infected a second time. No sane person would want a second round of Dirty Donald.

    They are scared to death that he will run in 2024 and win again. They know that even though he lost this time, he still has 75 million supporters out there. They also know that it wont take long for the country to figure out they got suckered by Biden/Harris...

    The democrats tried to go around the Constitution. I am fairly sure the founding fathers did not intend the primary purpose of impeachment to keep a person from being elected.

    Go through the impeachment and remove the person from the presidency. Fine.

    Along with that forbidding the person from running again. Fine.

    But to make the primary purpose to take away the right of the people to select their president. Wrong.

    Just because he lost an election, doesn't mean he shouldn't be held accountable.

    Well said but a couple of issues. Generally we impeach presidents to remove them from office. That was the purpose of Trump's first one but, obviously, not his second one. His second one was purely political hatred. Also an impeachment, even a convicted one doesn't ban an impeached person from running for office in the future. That takes a separate act of congress.

    You are correct that people who want to run for office should be able to do so. Gaining that office should be up to voters, not members of the opposition party.
