    ...That Discriminate Against Whites

    From New York Times:

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is preparing to redirect resources of the Justice Department’s civil rights division toward investigating and suing universities over affirmative action admissions policies deemed to discriminate against white applicants, according to a document obtained by The New York Times.

The document, an internal announcement to the civil rights division, seeks current lawyers interested in working for a new project on “investigations and possible litigation related to intentional race-based discrimination in college and university admissions.”

The announcement suggests that the project will be run out of the division’s front office, where the Trump administration’s political appointees work, rather than its Educational Opportunities Section, which is run by career civil servants and normally handles work involving schools and universities.

The document does not explicitly identify whom the Justice Department considers at risk of discrimination because of affirmative action admissions policies. But the phrasing it uses, “intentional race-based discrimination,” cuts to the heart of programs designed to bring more minority students to university campuses.

Supporters and critics of the project said it was clearly targeting admissions programs that can give members of generally disadvantaged groups, like black and Latino students, an edge over other applicants with comparable or higher test scores.

The project is another sign that the civil rights division is taking on a conservative tilt under President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions. It follows other changes in Justice Department policy on voting rights, gay rights and police reforms.

Roger Clegg, a former top official in the civil rights division during the Reagan administration and the first Bush administration who is now the president of the conservative Center for Equal Opportunity, called the project a “welcome” and “long overdue” development as the United States becomes increasingly multiracial.

“The civil rights laws were deliberately written to protect everyone from discrimination, and it is frequently the case that not only are whites discriminated against now, but frequently Asian-Americans are as well,” he said.

I was curious when this was going to get posted and the end result should be quite interesting.

I definitely find the development of this issue worth keeping an eye on.

I've leave my opinion out for the time being, plenty of time to toss in my 2cents later on.

I'll throw down. Equal protection for all sounds about right to me.

Isn't it strange how the anti-racist left-wing supports institutionalized racial discrimination like affirmative action?

The best thing that can be done is to treat everyone the same.

People should be judged as individuals, not by the color of their skin.

Affirmative action, in and of itself, is racist. It implies that a black person is inferior, and cannot compete on a level playing ground.

    How is that not racist?

University admissions should be devoid of personally identifying information. All applicants should be assigned a number, and the deciding body should only see the transcrips and applications. The hardest working people should get the best opportunities. (also, in addition to removing AA, they should remove Legacy admissions as well)

I suggest an ad campaign telling black dudes to raise their kids.

They've always been race-obsessed and condescending. They believe the inferior blacks need their help to survive.

It's about time. You can't have Equality and racial preferences at the same time.

This AA policy directly affected my daughter. She petitioned the University of Wisconsin for a ''direct admit" into the School of Business last year, as an incoming Freshman Actuarial Science major. She was denied, and - in looking at the list of kids who were admitted - it was quickly apparent why. They were employing quotas, and took actual academic and social achievement into account only after quotas were reached.

My daughter scored 34 on the ACT on her first and only try, with a 35 in English and a 36 in Math. She was a 4.0 (no way to improve upon that at her school; there is no mechanism from "above 4.0" scores there) at one of the best - if not the best - public high school in Wisconsin. She was a DECA officer, a 4 year varsity volleyball starter, a 3 year varsity captain - amongst the many other things she could put on her resume. She got 20 scholarship offers to attend college elsewhere; 12 athletic and 8 academic - but she has always been focused on attending UW-Madison for Act/Sci (top 3 in the nation in that discipline).

So, she simply stayed in the Actuarial School as a freshman, got her 4.0/dean's list/ActSci Club officer position/teacher's pet deal, and was admitted in the School of Business as a sophomore.

So no big deal, but irritating at the time.

Can we finally get a color blind legal system? For 190 years it was tilted to whites. Then for 50 years it was tilted to blacks.

Can't everyone just be treated the same? Go Trump!

I can't help but feel that blacks feel insulted when these white progressives essentially tell them "you need my help!" Although, if they are getting free stuff because of it, maybe it's tolerable.

It has always been obvious that reserving a seat for a specific race will automatically remove that seat for another race..

Congratulations for having such a brilliant child.

Minorities who benefit from affirmative action have been statistically shown to be more likely to drop out and not graduate from the colleges that accepted them. They would be MUCH better off by attending a lower-level college and successfully graduating. Instead, because of "fairness", they are thrown into colleges where they are behind the curve, outcompeted by their peers, and many do not make it. And, to make matters worse, applicants who would have been able to keep up and graduate are kept out, like your daughter.

But progressives don't take these externalities into consideration. It's much more important to try and make minorities feel good about themselves and artificially raise them to the levels of everyone else.

She's positively gorgeous, as well. If I wasn't related to her, I'd date her.

If poor white rural rednecks have an equal education opportunity they will get jobs. That will provide more welfare money for uneducated non working blacks.

I'm all for curing the problem instead of treating it but African Americans have lower scores and are less likely to able to get into college so is Trump going to do anything to help them get a better education in high school so that they can get into college?

Level the playing field? Oh, that's no good. Chaos will ensue. Gifted students will require qualified faculties ... nope, can't see how that could benefit anyone.

My daughter isn't nearly as accomplished, but she's Covergirl© pretty. I still haven't decided if it's a blessing or a curse.
