That’s right, either party can do it. Elections have consequences.

Everything that you just REHASHED was EXPLAINED in my prior post, Cy. If you are just going to ignore the facts in a petty attempt to disparage Obama that is your right but you cannot argue with the FACT that there was no attempt to impeach him for GOING TO THE AID of the Libyan civilians who were being threatened by an insane madman.

ALL Treaties that have been signed and ratified carry EXACTLY the same weight as every other law on the books. If you don't like those laws then ask your representatives to change them but Obama was IN COMPLIANCE with the Law of the Land when he took those actions. Not even a extremely PARTISAN Obama HATING Congress could come up with a single valid article to impeach him on.

On your 2nd count regarding Recess Appointments which is STIPULATED as a POWER GRANTED to the President that was nothing more than a PARTISAN URINATION CONTEST between the OBSTRUCTIONIST GOP and Obama trying to do his job. Since the appointments were to the NRLB, which the GOP HATES with a PASSION, they were trying to make it null and void by refusing to approve or reject his nominees. Now here is the part that you SHOULD pay close attention to, the GOP hatred of the NRLB is the SAME HATRED that they have towards your Social Security. For some background on the Obama era NRLB I am providing this link.

    https://onlabor.org/the-obama-boards-legacy-part-1-of-2/

What STYMIED any impeachment of Obama over the NRLB Recess Appointments was the SCOTUS decision thus rendering the issue NULL and VOID. Furthermore no one would have supported Obama being impeached for standing up for the RIGHTS of We the People in the face of blatant OBSTRUCTION by the GOP.

Which brings us to your 3rd attempt to impeach Obama which is beyond absurd. Prisoner swaps have happened throughout history and I am sure you remember Gary Powers who was swapped out by your hero JFK for a KGB colonel during the Cold War. What Obama did was controversial but NOT ILLEGAL since the POTUS DOES have that authority.

The only aspect that was out of compliance was the petty 30 day notification period. Had that gone to a court challenge it would have LOST because it deprives the Executive Branch of the power to act expeditiously in urgent situations. Bergdahl's life was in jeopardy which is why the notification period had to be bypassed. FTR the Taliban 5 are participating in PEACE TALKS to END the Afghanistan War which is probably a GOOD THING for EVERYONE concerned.

As far as impeaching Obama on violating a petty 30 day notification rule goes that would not have gotten beyond the LAUGH OUT LOUD stage as far as We the People are concerned. The GOP would have embarrassed themselves AGAIN and done themselves even more harm than good.

In summary when it comes to ALL OF THE ABOVE what is COMMON is that Obama always placed the interests of PEOPLE first and foremost. While this OUTRAGES the GOP because they really do NOT give a CRAP about people like you and I that anger does not form a sound basis for an impeachment. That lesson was learned when the Republicans were ANGRY with Bill Clinton for having a consensual BJ in the Oval office. Emotive driven impeachments are doomed to fail.

Did Obama make EXECUTIVE DECISIONS that put the interests of PEOPLE first and foremost? Yup, he is guilty of acting like a CARING and COMPASSIONATE LEADER.

Should he have been impeached for what are merely minor misdemeanors while DOING HIS JOB? I uphold your right to your OPINION but I can assure you that the MAJORITY of We the People would NOT be sharing it because it does not come anywhere remotely in the vicinity of High Crimes and Misdemeanors.

I know that none of the above will change your mind but at least now you have had the chance to see how it looks from the other side and your mountain is nothing more than a molehill from my perspective.

I don't want to watch through that 53 minutes again, but I am sure that during his ramblings with Fox he said something about his Doctor asking if he wanted to use a spare three hours he had to do his due Feb (?) 2020 check up, last weekend How would that Doctor know Trump had a spare three hours?

Well, Te, you completely side-stepped my questions. Besides, A "UN resolution" does not (NOT) release a U. S. President from the REQUIREMENT of complying with the War Powers Act of 1973, as much as you may wish it so....

And even if (an enormous "IF") we give Obama the benefit of the doubt that he was treaty-bound with NATO to launch military hostilities against a country with which we, the United States were AT PEACE, then I have one more question -- why didn't Obama go to Congress to request permission to attack Libya JUST LIKE IDIOT "W" BUSH DID BEFORE HE ATTACKED IRAQ eight years earlier...?!

You can't escape it, Te, Obama BROKE the War Powers Act of 1973, period! Obama's feelings of "care and compassion" (which have nothing to do with anything in official war-fighting foreign policy of this country) could easily have been indulged AND he could have avoided breaking the law if he had had the sense and respect for the law to go to Congress FIRST!

Next, you defend his 'recess-appointments', even though SCOTUS ruled that Obama acted unconstitutionally! Even Obama's own hand-picked, sympathetic Justices, Sotomayor and Kagan voted against him in this attempted power-grab. It was unanimous! Take your pick -- either Obama committed a 'high crime', or, a 'misdemeanor'... your choice....

Lastly, you wisely avoided commenting on Obama's breaking the law regarding 'swapping' detainees out of GITMO for Bergdahl -- because that one was a law that Obama had signed INTO law in the first place -- himself! Do I have to belabor the point endlessly?

"Messiah" Obama was in such a rush to make big PR photo-op 'splash' with Bergdahl's parents at the White House that he completely ran roughshod over a law that he had signed himself LESS THAN A YEAR BEFORE! I'll give you credit for knowing that, as anyone does who has been paying any attention to nearly all of what this man did for the eight long, miserable years he was in office....

Thank you for establishing that I was correct that none of those FACTS would change your mind about Obama.

I have made my position clear and there is nothing to be gained by repeating it over and over again.

Obama did NOT commit impeachable offenses, period!

The BLOTUS commits an impeachable offence every time he opens his big fat mouth and LIES to the American people.

And I will readily admit that nobody in the entire, venal, 'lickspittle' Congress stood up and pointed out that Obama did, in fact, break the law no less than three times! Throughout our wonderous 'government', in both parties, a person is what he can get away with, and that applies to ALL of them.

But I am guilty of 'beating a dead horse', and for straying FAR off topic, and, for dragging you into my own private penchant for criticizing Obama, which is a thing that anyone can do easily -- for DAYS -- without breaking a sweat. :deadhorse: . :blahblah:

Obama was not impeached, and I should let it go. I CAN'T, but at least I can stop posting about it in a thread that has nothing to do with Obama's many autocratic failures as a president....

Afterthought: you know what's funny, Te? It's gotten to the point where I really have to say that I don't even like Trump, although I do still approve of an admittedly 'dwindling' number of his policies. And, to the points you made months ago, I find that I still find merit in Andrew Yang, but instead it looks like the liberal-Left is likely to 'fall on its sword' for Geriatric Joe. Where is the Democrat Party of John F. Kennedy...? But here I go... beating that 'dead horse' again.... See you later.

There is a great deal to dislike about the BLOTUS and not much to like or even find admirable. I disliked Nixon but I was willing to admire the things that he did right. Same with Bush sr. He was little more than a placeholder in the Oval office IMO but he did a decent job with the Gulf War.

As far as the 2020 Dem candidate goes I will have a hard time supporting the Dem Establishment's Old Joe when there are a plethora of way better options to choose from.

We NEED a candidate who will do what is RIGHT for We the People, Cy. Without someone like that we are screwed.

    Wrong!

Your BLOTUS is a parasitic leech sucking taxpayer dollars into his pockets but I just find him to be a sad old fart who never grew up and learned how to be an adult. His comeuppance is overdue but it is in progress. I am patient.

I am not in the least bit worried when it comes to your BLOTUS. He has zero credibility and is going to be lame duck from here on.

What concerns me far more is the DAMAGE that the GOP has done to We the People. That needs to be remediated SOONER rather than later.

Lame duck? I'm gonna watch you eat your words when President Trump seeing through his next SCOTUS super-conservative Justice.

And here you are again, speaking for We the People. You do not speak for me, you speak for Liberal progressive Democrats.

From the same link you provided, please see the following (did you miss reading this?) -- I have added bold emphasis, underscore, and parenthetical insertions:

    "Section 2

    c. The constitutional powers of the President as Commander-in-Chief to introduce United States Armed Forces into hostilities, or into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances, are exercised only pursuant to [either] a declaration of war, specific statutory authorisation, or a national emergency created by attack upon the United States … or its armed forces. (Notice that there aren't any exemptions for "UN resolutions"....)

    Section 3

The President in every possible instance shall consult with Congress before introducing United States Armed Forces into hostilities … and after every such introduction shall consult regularly with the Congress until United States Armed Forces are no longer engaged in hostilities or have been removed from such situations. (Note that the inclusion of the word, "shall" means that the requirement is ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY!)

    Section 4
In the absence of a declaration of war, in any case in which United States Armed Forces are introduced … the President shall submit within 48 hours to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and to the President pro tempore of the Senate a report in writing, setting forth: (Ooh! There's that pesky "shall" word again....)

    a. the circumstances necessitating the introduction of United States Armed Forces;

    b. the constitutional and legislative authority under which such introduction took place; and

    c. the estimated scope and duration of the hostilities or involvement." (The overthrow of the Libyan Government...?!)

But, thank you for providing this information, because it makes it even more obvious that Obama BROKE THE WAR POWERS ACT....

I didn't know you were a constitutional lawyer.

The US didn't overthrow the Libyan government.

I merely ask that you read from the same information that you posted a link to as verification for your point of view, Margot....

The civil war in Libya was going back and forth in 2011, as you know. Radical Islamic factions had been fighting the government forces for months, and those government forces were finally coming close to victory over these murderous 'jihadis'. Then, suddenly, here came devastating aerial bombardments from the United States military, authorized by President Barack Obama -- on his own authorization, and on his own volition! Obama broke the War Powers Act of 1973, Margot. And he got completely away with it, and now there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Now, as you know, Libya continues to writhe in even more civil war between the various Islamo-Nazi factions. And how well were any American interests served...? We haven't even been able to reopen our American Embassy in Tripoli since being forced to shut it down in July 2014, because the whole situation there is so unsafe! You, more than most of us, KNOW this....
