Trump, who was in Ohio for a campaign stop at the Buckeye Values PAC rally, honored and thanked the participants of the deadly siege on the U.S. Capitol.

"Please rise for the horribly and unfairly treated January 6 hostages," an announcer said. Trump then saluted and the crowd stood as the "J6 Hostages' Song," a rendition of the National Anthem, played. The song, "Justice for All" by the J6 Prison Choir, features the voice of Trump reciting the pledge of allegiance.

Trump then opened his speech by thanking the rioters and calling them "unbelievable patriots."

    'Patriots' ....

    'American heroes'....

He asked the crowd to stand for the national anthem, which was being sung by these criminals.

Does it get any lower than this with Donald Trump?

If you're not concerned to see this, you don't know anything about history.

He recorded a hit single with people who had assaulted cops at the riot. Of course he'll continue being the thug he's always been.

With Trump, I wouldn't bet against him as far as low points.

That aside, I can't see how statements like these are going to help him with independents.

And all the primary exit polls say that at least 30% of those who voted for Nikki Haley will never vote for Trump.

He's doing two things.....normalizing political violence AKA radicalization. And, dehumanizing the people who he targets with his rhetoric. Those that deny this, have never learned the lessons of history and we can't sleepwalk into repeating it. He also refered to migrants as not "not human", that is textbook dehumanization.

We're witnessing first-hand the classic stages of autocratic drift.

    Hitler, Mussolini, Putin... Trump.

Virtually the same thing is happening in the US as in his home states at different times.

It is inappropriate for Trump, who is not president, not active duty, not a reservist, and not a veteran to salute.

Also, as Trump is not currently in the military nor a veteran, he should take his hat off during the "national anthem".

You'd think after having won the primary, he'd go into general election mode and tone down the rhetoric. However, it seems that he just can't help himself, he has so much gotten used to the divisive and dehumanizing rallies that he just can't appeal to independents. At least I hope. One should never underestimate the power of rose colored glasses looking back into the past.

He has on the national TV platforms, abortion for example but he's got to keep that "nationalist" base angry and feral to keep the intimidation going and the money flowing. This OP is at a rally with the true hardcore. BTW, multiple reports the crowd was weak re attendance.

So for all the MAGA folks who attacked the left, legitimately, for coddling the rioters during the Floyd riots, does this mean anything to them?

Wait, is this acknowledging, albeit tongue in cheek that the world was a better place in 2020(even with rapid covid) then the shitstorm of today?

So both sides(oh how I love that I can use this now) support their violent paramilitary groups! Goodie(actually, terrible for most law-abiding citizens.)

I'll be honest: I do want to grant clemency to "general J6'ers"(ie: Those who were unaware of the planning of the Oath keepers/Proud boys.) Because, it was a riot and I think that the jail time served, both pre-trial and proper has been more than sufficient.

A significant number of them were charged with just that: Trespassing. I want to tamper down what the Biden Administration seeks to turn J6 into. To me, it is not comparable to Pearl Harbor or 9/11, or other such instances. I believe that disrespects the dead and the way they were murdered. But it also attempts to brand these individuals, long after the incident is over.

That might be beneficial for Joe Biden, but it is detrimental to US Society.

Nobody denies that the first three Trump years were not bad (albeit not the greatest economy ever, as the Trump propaganda likes to project). In fact, they SHOULD have been good years, because Trump injected an additional $0.4 trillion deficit spending into the economy per year. That's were the growth came from.

Now, people tend to look at the past in rose colored glasses. So, it is not out of the question that even independents will glorify the first three Trump years, while forgetting about 2020 and the pandemic. That's how the human mind works. It remembers the good and tries to block out the bad from the past. It's a protective mechanism.

It's reasonable to do IMO. Regardless of the argument at the time(and Biden proved it), no WH was going to be able to contain COVID. And I want to be clear and deliberate about this: The blame lies with the CCP Government. Not the people, but their government.

The CCP government censored their people(that's how we first learned, screenshots of Chinese forums complaining about the censorship), and then the CCP failed to close down their borders in a timely fashion when they first learned of the crisis. Had they acted with the urgency necessary, COVID doesn't become what it is.

By contrast, Trump did activate the Defense Authorization Act. He did do everything the Left wanted(although dragged kicking and screaming). That's why we call it a democratic response to the virus because Trump was their lapdog.

And 4 years later(and to be fair there was alot unknown), lockdowns and school restrictions unfortunately affected youth students and the conservatives were right about that.

I disagree. We have successfully managed pandemics in the past but that was when the leaders of the nations were role models not idiots suggesting intravenous bleach

    https://www.statesman.com/story/new...o-drink-bleach-to-kill-coronavirus/113754708/

Even politifact is on my side about this. 4 years ago, I said this is absolutely silly. I'll still say it's silly. He didn't suggest drinking it. He did question whether it could be injected, but that's not the same thing as some command "go drink it!"

When that hyperbole happened, that was the day I lost faith in journalism.

    This is totally untrue.

Democrats do not support any group that seeks to undermine the very foundations of democracy.

Those who are still in prison have either plotted to kill elected officials or commit a terrorist act, or have injured police officers.

Do you want clemency for these people?

No, I only want to grant clemency to non-violent J6 offenders. The riot was unlawful and shouldn't have happened. But I don't think those who didn't participate in the violence should be lumped with those who did. So I wanna grant those people clemency.
