Don't blame "radical Islam" for San Bernardino

The reason Christians don't follow the OT is because they CAN'T, or they'd end up in prison for life!
I couldn't imagine having a belief system where the texts are so barbaric that I couldn't even follow it as written. Sad, really.

 

Christians, is that all true? If so, I assume that over the many years that you've been alive you've worked hard to update/change/improve those barbaric texts, so that the version that you give your impressionable young children has those parts neutered. I know I would.

True. Great post. But can you blame them, as they believe that they get 72 hot virgins to rape - I say rape because there is nothing about having to court/woo them, they are just raped. Mohammad wanted an army, so he made up some s**t to get people to kill for him.

What's wrong with us? A large majority of americans associate with a religion that features a talking snake, an apple of sin, and humans living to ~900 years old. How does one discredit a religion when the people who identify with religion surrender logic and reason in the name of their faith?

Because the minute you accept that...you creep into blaming ALL Muslims for the actions of a few and that is a VERY dangerous place to go.

That's not an answer. Naming it changes absolutely nothing. The commander of CentCom isn't waiting for the threat to be named something different so he can unleash his new strategy. Changing the name changes nothing in reality. Sure, maybe some racist conservatives feel better about their whackadoodle superstitions, but it doesn't change the threat, or how we engage them in any meaningful manner.

 

Ah, well at least you agree that just because you take a literal interpretation on something... it doesn't mean that the people following the book do. It's a poor verse to choose to focus on because I'm not sure anyone has the statistics of how many muslims beat their wives. On the other hand, the US has domestic abuse statistics (which probably don't account for 100% of abuse).

The point, which you seem to be missing, is that you can't quote a verse as proof that islam is bad, unless you can prove that honest followers of islam are actually carrying out the actions within the verse.
