Never purchase any health insurance policy until they send you a copy of the entire policy you are purchasing. And, request a list of all physicians/surgeons/hospitals and clinics that are covered under the policy. Then make sure it lists all covered medical treatment and surgical procedures and covered prescriptive drugs, medical equipment(such as wheel chairs, oxygen)and home health care/long term care and facilities and nursing home care benefits. The list is extensive but this is where the Insurance Companies can ultimately "screw you". Also make sure you understand what applies to your deductible, because not all medical care does. Same with you out of pocket and co-pay. And prior to any non-emergency surgery or inpatient hospitalization call your company and get prior approval for the care and "get it in writing". Our practice and our patients are being "screwed" by insurance companies verbally approving care/hospitalization and surgery and after receiving/providing the services; they refuse to pay. This is happening over and over and mainly on policies purchased through State or Federal Exchanges. The private policies seem to not be experiencing these problems.
