So, the DOT should be abolished and anybody can drive heavy equipment. Right?

I can grade and bushog and plow with a farm tractor, but I would NEVER be brave enough to drive it on a public road.

Which means they would have to take a cdl test and carry a log book and get a physical every 2 years. There are also lots of new regulations with CSA 2010.

Good thing they are not doing it. The problem is we have the Obama administration that was stupid enough to consider this in the first place.

    there are two issues here.

    1. If the farmer owns his own land, anyone can operate a tractor on the land WITHOUT a CDL license. It is private property.

    2. If the farmer utilizes a public road to access various fields, I do not see a problem with regard to a need for a CDL license. Crossing a public road potentially puts motorists in harms way so the need for a higher level of driving competence must be displayed.

You are as wrong as he is.

It applies to every piece of farm machinery on or off the farm.

So a farmer can't get onto his own tractor and use it on his own land without getting the pointy-headed bureaucrats in Washington into the act.

So if a farmer has an old broken down one-ton flatbed hay truck he can't take a load of hay across the road without jumping through hoops first.

    This absolute liberal bs.

Only if you drive farm equipment on public roads. Me? I'd rather put it on a flatbed ..

I never drove my Ford Rubber Tire on public roads.

No but the new regulations are getting out of hand. They are once again looking at log book laws and we just had our best safety record in history in 2009. You see drivers and companies are becoming more safety conscious on their own.

It will be interesting to see if they make mexican trucks obey the DOT safety regulations

They then have to carry a log book and adhere to the 11-14 hour laws

As a teenager I had many miles on rural roads. We had to haul the hay down the road to get to the barn

    That's just common sense, right?

Not when idiot libs in Washington have too much power in their hands.

This new regulation will prevent the farmer from operating his own tractor on his own land without a CDL.

As for part 2 the roads in question do not belong to the federal government.

If the county or the state wants to continue the policy OF THE LAST 100 YEARS they should be allowed to do so.

And that was probably a while ago..

Why do you suppose they don't drive backhoes and graders on public roads??

We let illegals come into our country and run ram shot over everything, but the people who grow our food now need a CDL license to run a tractor??? You can't make this (*)(*)(*)(*) up.

    No it doesn't.

This applies to farm equipment used on the family farm.

And as I keep pointing out - THOSE ARE NOT OBAMA'S ROADS!

These are roads belonging to the county or the state.

Another one who didn't read either the proposal or the previous posts, even the ones directed at him, even the quote from the proposal posted specifically for him. This applies to operation of farm vehicles on public roads.

It applies to tractors operated on private land.

heavy equipment does. But if it is a long haul it goes on a truck. You see farmers often have fields miles away that they have to drive on roads. These roads are usually back roads with very little traffic so it is not a problem because the people on the road all know each other

Notice that the designation doesn't come and go whether the implement is on the public road. The designation is affixed if it's ever used on the public road.

Big Fed is stealing liberty. Again.

    Do they do anything else?

Yes I know that.. and on rural back roads with a careful driver it might not be dangerous.. but .........

I'd rather see it put on a flatbed these days.
