It seems that the global unemployment is deteriorating to such an extent that miserable earthlings have to compete with the Reaper for the job of ending the Lama's cycle of worldly existence. The Lama recently alleged that Chinese agents had trained bogus female devotees to kill him with poison while seeking blessings. "We received some sort of information from Tibet," he said. "Some Chinese agents training some Tibetans, especially women, you see, using poison – the hair poisoned, and the scarf poisoned – they were supposed to seek blessing from me, and my hand touch."

His allegation makes the Chinese authorities look like impatient morons rushing to kill somebody of a ripe old age with a life hanging like a ripe plum ready for the picking by the Reaper. If the Chinese authorities had such an intention, they could have done it long ago.

I think the Chinese authorities would prefer to see him enjoying a longer life than to find themselves in terra incognita after his death.

The Lama's absurd claim reinforces my earlier "intelligent guess" or "prediction" that he may not survive beyond 2020. As we get older, we tend to lose the sense of perspective and start uttering all sorts of rubbish till the day of reckoning.

As he inched towards his next cycle of life, he may have confused his present existence with the memories of poisoning and murders in his past reincarnations. History has recorded that many of his past reincarnations died young, including the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Dalai Lamas. Some were rumoured to have been poisoned. Others were believed to have been murdered. Only half of the Dalai Lamas lived to see their thirties. At least four are believed to have been killed amid palace intrigue. In 1682, a government minister hid the death of the Dalai Lama for fifteen years, secretly ruling with the help of a look-alike.

One of the worst was the 6th Dalai Lama who was more interested in women and alcohol than he was in studying and leading. He used to sneak out of Potala in disguise to visit local brothels. A Jesuit monk who lived in Lhasa at that time wrote that “no good-looking person of either sex was safe from his unbridled licentiousness.”

The 13th Dalai Lama barely escaped an assassination attempt allegedly orchestrated by his own regent.

Poor Lama, now he can't even trust the women of his own race! If he has a vivid memory of his past tragic reincarnations, he should know he is pointing his finger at the wrong direction.

Regarding the question of why they'd bother killing the Dalai Lama at his ripe old age, my theory is that it would be to do with the wave of self immolations - the self immolations that China knows are a bad look and encourage further protest.

That said, i accept that his claims are not proven, and therefore am neutral about them at this stage.

Dear madam-meow, if there's anything to do with the self immolations, why bother to kill him at his ripe old age?

There is a popular Chinese song called "No matter how long I am waiting for you, you will sure to turn up one day". It's a matter of time the Reaper or the Buddha will do the work.

In fact, he should not wait for the Reaper or the Buddha to do the work. He should set a good example to his followers. As a leader, he should lead, not trailing far behind his faithful followers.

Dear reedak, that China would consider the self immolations important enough to block foreign tourists from visiting Tibet like they did again recently, makes me think that an assassination plot against the dalai would not be too far-fetched.

As for setting an example, just as there is no proof that China plotted to assassinate the dalai, there is no proof that the dalai is responsible for the self immolations. Neither claim is more valid than the other.

My dear madam-meow, is it rational to consider self immolations "important"? There are two possible reasons for closing Tibet to non-residents:

    1. To prevent separatists from contacting their foolish followers and passing instructions and messages to them.

    2. Since there will be nobody enjoying the spectacle of crazy people leaving the world in a "blaze of glory", the "fire dancers" will find no fun performing the foolish acts.

Regarding the allegation of assassination plot, let's take an analogy. Suppose a person has a 90-year-old father with billions of US dollars worth of property, do you think he would be so stupid and impatient to kill his old father?

I have "predicted" or "estimated" that the Lama will meet the Buddha by 2020. Why can't those who have no love for him wait for the Buddha to finish the job? I think China would like to see him live longer instead of finding itself in Terra Incognita or Terra Nova after his death.
