Instead of the other Dems in districts that voted for Trump who have switched sides to stay in office, Slotkin is sticking by her principles, even if it means she will be voted out of office.

This reminds me of when Henry VIII of England wanted to break from the church so he could divorce his wife. One man defied him and lost his head for it. They wrote a book about him. It’s called a man for all seasons. Slotkin is a woman for all seasons.

This goes back to what people think a rep should do. Represent the party, the district, or their own independence.

Just my opinion here, but I don’t think a rep should turn around and vote in a way that tells the majority of his or her district:

“If you don’t like it, vote me out”

I hope we're not going to have a thread on 400+ individuals and what they plan on doing.

I'd rather just wait until the vote which should be 98% party line, +/- a few.

FYI, this is a repeat but bears repeating, I do NOT want my house rep to vote based on polling data or 2016 or 2018 election results, I want my house rep to do what they think is right based on the evidence presented to them. If I hear that mine is voting party line for the sake of voting party line, then I will vote for their opponent in 2020 with zero hesitation.

Have there been any announcements from any Democrats to vote against Impeachment (besides the guy who simultaneously said he would switch to the Republicans?)

ROFL........ you're seriously comparing Thomas More to some party-line voting Democrat puppet?

Oh, and if you believe your simplification of Henry VIII / More's relationship, you seriously need to crack open a history book. Or two. Or three. It was complicated. But either way, More was no party-line puppet, and any comparisons between More and this woman are laughable. Really. You guys crack me up sometimes. Like the people who think it's a "Sophie's Choice" to decide between having chicken or fish for dinner

    Amen to the bolded.

Besides, it's hardly newsworthy that a Democrat is going to vote party-line. The whole thing has been, and is expected to remain, almost entirely party-line. It's kind of newsworthy when someone breaks with their party ---- like Dems Van Drew, Yudichak and Peterson ---- but voting party-line is about as newsworthy as making a post telling us water is wet.

Good deal. Stupid move but good deal. Trump beats the impeachment. Trump still gets reelected. The Democrats lose the seat. It's a short sighted strategy to satisfy some idiotic emotional need. The Republicans can use the seat. Yay her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You go gurl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cheerleader::bye::popcorn:

One might so far. They won't announce their intentions until they are closer to the vote if they are going to vote against to avoid the pressure from their party so there could be more.

MN Democrat Collin Peterson says he won’t vote for impeachment ‘unless they come up with something’

Yudichak is a State Senator and I made an explicit reference to Van Drew when I said "besides the guy who simultaneously said he would switch to be a Republican."

I think the same can be argued of Republicans in the House. For example, Francis Rooney

    and to add to this.

Its an insult to me as a voter every single time we get party line votes for any piece of legislation no matter what it is, it defeats the purpose of actually electing a thinking person for the job. <JOB is the key word, which requires thinking, not blind obedience to the leadership.

Why do I need a congressperson to have an office, staff, payroll, expenses if he/she is just going to do exactly what their leader wants them to do? Makes more sense to just vote for a silicone chip that the party leader can click to push the button for their vote and cut out the middle man and save a lot of time.

I'm pretty familiar with Rooney and his statements, he was right to say what he said and has caught a lot of negative commentary locally but at the time he had limited info. He also has announced that he won't be running in 2020 in a 70+% red district, so he can do what he thinks is best. With that said, I believe he announced his leaving was due to budgetary issues more than this particular issue.

In a way he's doing the GOP a favor, because by withdrawing in 2020 the gop will put in a fresh candidate that should win easily in the general election, where if he was the gop candidate he might lose to a dem even in a heavy red district if he ended up voting against impeachment. (since IMO most voters don't agree with me on the partisanship thing)

He also was in favor of term limits, which is a huge issue for me, in the meantime I generally use self imposed term limits the only way I know how, voting, I tend to go against the incumbent in every primary.

Sorry, but that's what a representative is... you vote them in based on a general platform, then trust them to do the right thing on issues like this.

As a Democrat voted into her district in 2018, she's not "turning anything around", since the current Democratic platform is impeach...

Jeff Van Drew, OTOH, clearly is... "If you don't like it, I'll switch to the other side"

I don't begrudge Van Drew switching parties, but I do disagree with doing it outside of an election. If he wants to switch and run as an R in 2020, be my guest...

Just one of many who will be out in 2020. The Trump re-election / landslide in the House is coming because the Dems are afflicted with TDS.

    Politician makes a decision.
Politician feels the need to write an op-ed piece about it.

Just a few data points that are relevant to this prediction. All of these charts are from 538's average of the polls.

Curious as term limits, in my minds eye, would solve ALLOT of the issues we have in government today. I think there ALWAYS should be new blood and it maybe would quell voting merely for the (D) and (R) for merely voting for the (D) and (R). Just my ¢¢!

I agree. For what it's worth, I'm an Independent, so that may color my thinking in this regard. I'd be fine with removing the (R) and (D) from voting ballots altogether too.

Definitely a race to watch in 2020.

I think that he will probably be toast in the GOP Primary.

Slotkin will win in her district.
