I am against affirmative action when it means wealthy black kids who attend good schools get breaks over harder working higher achieving classmates. I support affirmative action as described in this post I made earlier

    I agree with turtledude.
Affirmative action is a good idea gone bad.
    Typical government action outcome.

How turtledude explained the decision process with his two tennis players doesn't require affirmative action to apply; we simply don't look at either heritage or social standing when picking people to fill limited slots. We look instead at potential, work ethic etc.

Why is that such a hard concept to follow?

Affirmative action was bad idea gone bad. Government influencing race based decisions would never turn out good. The idea that this was a good idea is completely asinine to me.

Affirmative action needs to end. When I worked for the phone company, they had a system where eligible employees were put on a “promote now” list when management thought that they were ready for more responsibilities. Some white men had to wait for more than a year to get to the next level because the company was growing slowly.

Yet, because of court orders and government regulations, women were put ahead of the line in front of them. One woman had just gotten her Bachelors degree, not from a “fancy school,” and had no job experience. She waltzed right in the first day and was put on the promotion list.

Another young woman flunked the management assessment test twice. Yet she was promoted because her daddy was high up in the company. I was known for asking probing questions at meetings. One day she pulled me aside and asked me not to ask any questions because she didn’t think she could answer them.

There were older women who had been shortchanged, but they usually didn’t get the promotions. The promotion went to young, attractive women who flirted with the old bosses. One old man had what the office called “a harem.” He filled his staff with young women he was always pushing. The old guy got high marks from upper management because of his “affirmative action” achievements.

These were examples of affirmative action run amuck. The women who should benefited from it didn’t, while those who no basis for complaint got ahead.

We always hired at least one marginal employee. We had one guy who's sole job was cutting glass. That was it. But he did it okay.
The guy was several bricks short of a load. Everyone got it: "Leave the cutter alone, bring your concerns to me."
No one had to incentivize us to do it. It is what you do.

Stamp out "affirmative action" (REVERSE-DISCRIMINATION) everywhere it raises its ugly, unfair head. And while you're at it, eliminate all those lucrative government contracts that are "set-aside" for minority bidders ONLY!

Anything that promotes the interest of one citizen over another without any justification based in MERIT is bullshit!

The simple act of affirmative action in itself is racist. I understand the reason that it was created but it is still a remedy that discriminated against some people that were more qualified for the position based on diversity placement. All applications should be banned from asking for information of race, gender, religion or ethnicity.
