First a FYI: Carrier Battle Group: (CBG) Usually 1X super aircraft carrier with a Carrier Air Wing abroad. 2X Cruiser and 6X Destroyers as escorts and one or two attack submarines and a couple of fleet oilers with frigate escorts. Carrier Strike Group: (CSG) Usually 1X super aircraft carrier with a Carrier Air Wing aboard. 1X Cruiser and 3X Destroyers. The last time the U.S. Navy was able to put a CBG to sea was during the Bush (43) administration. In fact when the Chi-Coms were rattling their sabers, Bush was able to put 10 X CBG to sea, two of the CBG were conducting combat flight operations over Iraq and Afghanistan. The Obama administration allowed the U.S. Navy to deteriorate so much the Navy had problems with just keeping two CSG at sea in their assigned Fleet AOR's. President Trump inherited Obama's PC Navy and things aren't getting better as fast as we would like. Pretty basically the U.S. Navy needs 14 CBG's to be able to fulfill it's peacetime mission having a CBG in the Navy's most important Fleet AOR's, 5th Fleet AOR, 6th Fleet AOR and the 7th Fleet AOR and also being able at the same time to deploy CBG's to the 2nd, 3rd,and 4th Fleets AOR's. AOR = Area Of Responsibility.
Just ASW helicopters that are normally deployed on cruisers and destroyers. Otherwise their only AA are the RIM-66 Standard MR surface to air missile. An Arleigh Burke destroyer can carry up to 90 Standard AA missiles.
The total dollars of defense spending did not drop but the costs of fighting in Iraq dropped as we withdrew. So the funds for the Navy should not be deficient. The military in the first three Obama years was higher than the spending in the first three years of Trump.
It's going to cost hundreds of billions of dollars to repair the damage that the Obama administration and Congress too who allowed it to happen that was inflicted on our military.
Yes they are extremely underfunded We should maybe double the military budget for the next 10 years, even that might not be enough I’m sure we can cut social security and food aid 100% and the old people dying in their homes (if the bank doesn’t take it that is) will completely understand this necessary cutback.
Like I said, it’s a necessary cutback that our elderly and infirm will understand. And yes, I understand what PPP is, we spend on our military — as a comparative GDP — like nations that are at war with all of their surrounding neighbors.
How about the cutbacks that the illegal aliens and legal immigrants will understand. A Ford class carrier cost $13 billion. Illegal aliens cost the tax payers $116 billion dollars per year. https://thehill.com/opinion/immigra...ng-the-spiraling-costs-of-illegal-immigration The U.S.A. pays for the R&D that the other militaries in the world uses or in the Chi-Coms case, steal from America. American service men are paid a lot better than other countries. Those civilians working in the military industrial complex are well paying jobs, most are union jobs. Lets not forget all of those mandatory PC social engineering sensitivity and diversity classes that our military are forced to attend that takes our soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen off the ranges and from maintaining the equipment and weapons platforms.
I am perfectly fine with cutting off all aid to illegals including penalization of cities that abetting them. So your argument basically boils down to illegals, creating jobs that are unnecessary, China, and PC social engineering about not raping your fellow human as the cause of gross negligence in military spending... That’s a stretch
