Woke people, like those that work at Twitter hate and fear politically conservative speech. Hence they ban it.

Women can train all they like. The lady winning the meet is still a dude with denser bones, greater lung and heart capacity.

This seems to be where I disagree a lot with liberals. Free speech should always be protected, no matter what it is that is said. Well, that and their stance on 2A rights. The government should always fear their citizens, not the other way around. Of course, I disagree with conservatives over environmental, social, and economic issues. At least Elon has ensured I will have a place to complain about both groups, lol.

I think hate speech is ignorant and stupid, but that it should absolutely be permitted to say. If you give someone the power to decide what is or is not acceptable to say, that power WILL get abused eventually, and soon things that were never intended to be illegal to say will become illegal. Soon it will be hate speech to speak out against those who decide what is hate speech. Free speech should never be compromised. Once it is gone, it is very difficult to get back.

I agree hate speech is ignorant and stupid. It's also frequently harmful particularly when it's untrue and libelous. One of the main responsibilities freedom requires is that we don't use it as an excuse to assault people. Freedom is not license. This is easy to understand when it's a physical attack on someone's actual person but somewhat harder to grasp when words are used to damage someone's reputation though this is often an even worse thing as it can last and increase its effect over time, becoming a wound that never heals

But, if it is not allowed to be said, then it is not truly freedom. I think it is better to have society truly transformed to where they no longer want to hurt their fellow human beings, rather than the only reason they don’t being that the government is forcing them not to. That would only be a band aid, when it is actually surgery that is needed. It will definitely take more work, and likely won’t change in our lifetimes, but I think true freedom is required for true healing of society. It seems like we live in a hateful society, and to a large degree we do, but we have co e a very long way from how it was in previous decades and centuries.

Without true freedom you cannot have true change.

And again the political right in its disgusting way of twisting truths and spreading fake news ... sorry since dumbass Donald Trump right-wing fake news is no longer called fake news but "alternative truth", I almost forgot the point!
    What is the real truth?
The EU - in the person of EU Commissioner Thierry Breton - has only reminded Musk that there are moderation rules in the EU and that he has to comply with them, otherwise there will be fat fines up to and including a ban on Twitter in the EU!
The reason for this reminder is a corresponding announcement by Musk regarding future moderation.
And what is wrong with the warning from the EU? Nothing...absolutely nothing! We have rules and laws and everyone in the EU has to abide by them, including Twitter and an Elon Musk!

Are you free to go beat up your neighbor? Can your rob him of all his goods and possessions while you burn his house down and take his wife and daughters as sex slaves? I realize it's truly terrible that the only reason most people don't do that is because we have police and laws and prisons but it HAS been that way forever and doesn't look likely to change.

True freedom includes being free from others taking your freedom from you, including the cases you mentioned. I think that also includes terrorizing people about their views. However, speech in public forums do not hamper people in such a way. You should not be penalized for expressing yourself.

if you hold a strike outside of someone’s house, that is one thing, and takes away that persons freedom. However, expressing your views in a place like twitter, or in a town hall meeting, etc, should be free and open with no possibility of being penalized.

And if someone says there is, that's hate speech.

The more I read this post the more amazed I am. It's dysfunctional on so many levels.

One layer I'd like to point out is the demand for a definition for "hate speech", which doesn't have a definition.

This is followed by the attempt to redefine and remove the immutable characteristics between men and women.

It's stunning to me that there are people out there that can do this.

How the brain doesn't implode from these types of "thought processes", for lack of a better term, is beyond me.

Banning free speech in Russia means banning anything but state sponsored speech. There is no other speech in this system. Banning hate speech or speech leading to violence is nothing more than most of us do on a daily basis. Who gets to decide which is which? Elon Musk or the EU? I trust the EU before Elon.

It's like saying- "Women could perform at the same athletic level as men, but they don't, because they don't put in enough training."

    Utterly ridiculous.

    Do they really though?

Are they truly that clueless about basic biology, or are they just afraid of being called racist bigotNazi supremacists if they dare to deny narrative?
