China was by far the most advanced civilization in 1500. Through isolationism and xenophobia, China cut itself off from the development bthat was pioneered in England. Today, American racists call for similar isolationism. The USA is set to atrophy to the same extent as China. The American hegemony - of rightists have their way - will be just as forgotten in the future as the overwhelming superiority of the Chinese Empire has been by you!

No, you don't "got it." The important contribution to the west from the Islamic empire was around 1300 to 1500th that is only around 500-600 years ago, from today. Not 1000 years ago. And the industrial revolution in England began from 1750 to 1850, which is only a couple hundred years. Not 1000. The contribution to science, technology and medicine is what give Europe the essential knowledge for its industrial revolution. There is a connection that you're not willing to acknowledge.

No, I am not discrediting European's contribution to modernity; however, to understand the present you have to understand the past. And you need to acknowledge that the reason why racist country is rich, simply because they exploit people who are not in the same race as them. For instance, the white racialist in America exploited the so called Negroes for over 400 years, the Chinese man was also exploited building rail road, and planning sugar canes in Hawaii plantations. Manifest destiny in America, European believed that it was their God's given right to expand westward to take over native American's land. This extraction of resources from the America, the absorption of technology from other nation and peoples, and the enslavement of others.

He's talking bollocks. The British Empire was built upon the slave trade and the importation of raw materials from the Empire followed by the export of goods back to the Empire. There is lots of evidence should you care to study it. The conservative economic historian Neil Fergusson is one source. But the clearest evidence was the collapse of the Britsih Empire and the knock on that has had on the British economy - utterly disastrous. Ports like Liverpool and Glasgow utterly destroyed. Industrial heartlands decimated.

Colonies contributed 10% max GDP. There is only so much some rubber, cotton and tea can do for a massive European iron and coal based economy.

You have completely missed out the contribution of MARKETS to British GDP. The empire provided PROTECTED MARKETS FOR BRITISH GOODS.

I haven't missed anything. I am reporting the calculations of professional historians and economists. Of course they are correct. The Industrial Revolution was based on indigenous coal and iron mining, indigenous invention, and indigenous food production. Overseas imports of luxuries had almost no effect.
