How many countries in the European Union? That's like having a two man race between Russia and the US and the US wins but the Russian paper writes it up that the Russians come in second and the US next to last. I guess you can make anything sound like you want if you write it up right and I see you did.

What is weird is that not once did I hear the European Union Anthem played during the Medal Ceremonies when the Europeans won. Why is that I wonder?

    Nice try.

You are forgetting qualifying restrictions. Were the EU limited to the number of competitors per event as individual nations they wouldn't have near the medals.

Lets just do the simple math if the EU competed as one entity it would be limited to around 500 athletes. The EU has such a large medal count because it sent over 3.5k competitors.

You know what's hilarious? All your little eurotard countries combined didn't top the US in gold medals. You know, since American athletes brought 46 gold medals home.

    Lol......

If the EU is only one country then they should only get one vote in the UN.

That's not fair. Break it down by individual countries and US is at the top.

    ?

    Why?

Do you expect G.D. of Luxembourg to get as many medals as the entire continental United States of America?

    Of course it is fair!

USA consists out of 50 memberstates, the EU out of 27 memberstates.

What isn't fair about the comparison?

The difference has already been mentioned, but I'll mention it again: The US is only allowed to field competitors as one state. The 50 members states of the US are not allowed to send separate athletes. If they were there would be a shift in many of the individual medals and some of the team medals as well.

For example, in the Gymnastics Women's All-Around our competitors ranked first, second and fourth overall in the preliminaries. Instead of the top 8 athletes going forward, only two from each country were allowed to compete in the finals. If it wasn't for that rule, we could possibly have swept the competition.

Or consider basketball. We have quite a few great teams in our country already. The Olympics would just become one big NBA playoff competition if we could field more than one team.

If you want the EU to compete in the Olympics, that is great - they just need to start competing as the EU, with the same restrictions as any other single entity has for the competition. Restrict their submissions to the same two or three submissions per event that the US, Russia and Australia are limited to. Then see how things turn out.

I'd be interested to see if some of the smaller countries like Luxembourg would even get to see one of their members in the competition in that situation. . .

Here is an example, the USA is represented by 1 basketball team, so is China, so is each individual European country. Their chances of winning are identical. If on the other hand you compare the chances of one American team against the chances of either one of 40+ European countries, of course the chanses of a European country to win are 40 times higher.

Needless to say the same is applicable to all other team and individual sports, europe is represented by 40 times more teams and/or athletes so statistically it should have gotten 40 times more medals. Did it?

So how many medals do we have if we call it North America. Oh. Sorry, we don't have a North American flag, do we?

LOL, thanks for the laugh. Sounds like somebody is jealous that the United States was at the # 1 position. Poor little guy. It must just eat you up inside!

If you can't deal with it I can recommend therapy, it should help ease the jealousy.

The Russians could add all teh former Soviet Republics to their total and they'd probably be up there too.

    Huh? Jealousy?!

Why should I be jealous? The stats prove Europe is top-notch, and nobody can beat us... Just look at the medals!

I'm not really sure, but a lot of people seem pretty slow on here...

What a load of American-inspired nonsense!

Y'all are wrapped into your American line of thinking.

    Quantity.

    No, it is about quality.

Who cares if we could have sent only 1 basketball team?

America already had problems with Spain.

So imagine only one basketball team which consists out of the best players of the entire EU, and not just Spain... :twocents:

The British county of Yorkshire won more medals than Brazil.
