    "
As European Union nations continue to ease coronavirus restrictions, EU member states are discussing barring visitors from several countries, including the US, according to EU officials speaking to CNN. These sources, who are involved in the talks, say they have not seen any lists mentioning specific countries.

Amid a surge of coronavirus infections in some parts of the world, the EU has been working with member nations to agree on which travelers might be considered safe to visit the bloc starting July 1. The guidance will be based on how countries of origin are faring with the coronavirus pandemic.
"The criteria will be focused on circulation of the virus," said one EU diplomat, adding that Brussels is looking to keep out travelers from countries "where the virus is circulating most actively."

    "

This is interesting, and not at all surprising. USA, Russia and Brazil are all Covid hot spots, so it makes sense for Europe to bar people from entering the EU from those places.

And Trump and his supporters should have no reason to complain. He (and they) repeatedly told us that limiting arrivals from China was one of the important early steps that Trump took. So it is perfectly reasonable for the EU to do the same - limit arrivals from Covid hot spots.

    Right?

If that's what the EU wants, then fair enough.

Are you saying this is a bad thing?

It might be quite a practical idea.

There's a travel ban from the EU to the US and there's a travel ban from the US to the EU. Given the current situation, seems absolutely reasonable.

    I guess so.
The question is whether those unhappy people will be upset with the EU for imposing the restrictions, or whether they will direct their unhappiness where it belongs - with trump, who utterly failed to lead the country in a way to control the virus.

But the EU will open up again soon, because the virus is under control. But not in the US so people from Australia and New Zealand will be able to visit the EU, but Americans won’t.

Trump will probably go crazy on Twitter. He'll want to impose tariffs on everybody. He might even close all our ports and end trade with everyone.

All the Trumpers will go crazy, they'll be saying we have to go to war.

And meanwhile, the USA becomes worse than a third world shithole, so sick our poor citizens are not welcome anywhere anymore.

Yes it will be a delicious irony if a president who imposed travel bans has one imposed on America.

And it will be because he failed to respond to Covid with leadership. Because he was mor concerned about reelection than about the health of Americans.

They’d be fools to let Americans in to spread the coronavirus.
It’s no coincidence that the countries with the most corrupt, incompetent leaders have the highest number of deaths in the world.

I would say it has much more to do with the people in a free society than its leaders. No one controls us, as it should be. Or do you want to prohibit the riots, and force people to stay in their homes at gunpoint?

I dont blame Europe for putting a travel ban in place. We should keep ours going too, blocking all international travel.

I saw the thread, and thought... ok. so what? If folks are doing this in the good faith of trying to isolate themselves from a pandemic, good on them, no? We don't allow folks from the EU here yet, so it seems equitable. And folks who would have traveled are staying home spending here, which can have a positive effect on our economy. Good news.

It is their tourism revenue at stake. They can mull and do whatever they like.
