Hmm, why don't we see all these knife attacks in America? Wow, looks like Chicago or Detroit, or Baltimore or St. Louis... or a lot of other bad parts scattered across the United States. Is anyone ready to admit the problem isn't guns? Or at least can admit that's only HALF of the equation? Link to another thread: London is Now More Violent Than New York City People aren't killing each other in Kennesaw, Georgia. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...he-law-requires-you-to-own-a-gun-8429798.html crime statistics: only 1 murder in 5 years https://www.kennesaw-ga.gov/crime-statistics/ Prairie Village, Kansas doesn't seem to have murders most years either, hmm... http://www.areavibes.com/prairie+village-ks/crime/ (violent crime rate is also 7 times smaller than the state of Kansas as a whole, which is already lower than the national average) Despite their strict gun control laws, people in England are more likely than those in the U.S. and Canada to say that they live near an area where they would be afraid to walk alone at night. http://news.gallup.com/poll/21346/crime-rate-lower-united-states-canada-than-britain.aspx
Where's the link to gun control? There's no evidence at all that the handgun ban impacted on violent crime rates (handgun ownership was too low after all). This is actually a post about the impact of austerity. The significant reduction in police numbers has led to increased crime rates. You don't need Sherlock to work that out!
Sure, feigning ignorance now ? Why not post more more Empirical Evidence ? Or Scholarly studies ? What Larks !
You don't make sense and it's my fault? The impact of austerity on the police force is well known. The impact of reduced police numbers on crime rates is also accepted by the government (although the minister feigned ignorance). Of course it's also well understood within deterrence theory (and the research that you avoid due to ideological need).
You are afraid of an honest discussion on the research and it's validity. Anti Diogenes, as I search for honest researchers. You want to type cast me into your approved role, I eschew Ideology, I prefer facts, well grounded facts.
Ignoring criminology is not consistent with a preference for facts. It is hostility to reasoned comment Can you deny that police numbers are important as a crime deterrence? Can you deny that police numbers here are down because of austerity? If not, you don't have an argument.
I worked as Constable and as Police here in the U.S. and would have to agree with you on those points.
gun control IQ test: you are about to be the victim of a violent crime, unfortunately, you will die in the commission of this crime but, I'm a fair man and will give you a chance. On a table in front of you are several lethal items, what is the one item you can remove that will guarantee your survival? 1)an AR-15 , an Uzi, a 30-30 lever action etc 2) a 22cal pistol , a .45 1911, a .38 revolver 3) a machete,ax,knife etc 4) a club, baseball bat, brick, tire iron, steel pipe 5) the human hand Choose wisely
You know what else is a deterrent? Citizens who can defend themselves with something more than a rape whistle.
