countries appear to me as more concerned by the idea of our perceived power then pushing forward progress in their agendas. how do we turn the attention of our population from hey I got a new iPhone or weve got greater tech and a stronger military to hey, lets cure cancer or make simple solutions to real life problems. half us the time we posture those around us and try and put ourselves in a higher level of self importance like some sort of game. I cant walk down the freaking street without someone starting a staring contest with me. is this what are world leaders are doing behind closed doors?

It's mostly coming from certain countries in the world, but the surplus population in those countries is spilling out into other countries.

That means that even if 75 percent of the world gets their birth rates under control, it's still not going to solve the problem on a global scale.

And what's happening is typically the population in the countries with the highest birth rates spill out into other parts of the world that have the lowest birth rates.
Sort of like the global great equalizer.

So it's not such a simple matter of the rich developed countries just letting certain other poor countries breed out of control and letting them reap the consequences.

I admire more people like you who says they're uneducated and try hard than many "educated" people. For that, you have a very beautifull mind. I'm myself not a native english speaker and learned by myself a big part of what I know in english, so I'm not perfect for grammar and spelling either.

Natural disaster is only a problem if the society behind is deficient. Let's take a look at japan. They take natural disasters after natural disasters, yet, they succeeded to get one of the best economy in the world and one of the most admired culture. They recover of disasters after a few days when some countries would stray crippled during a dozen of years with the same disaster.

so foremost in our collective minds should be the ability to adapt and recover rather then prevent what we already know will happen?

It is not about being able to feed 10 Billion or more - that is not the issue (mind you we can't manage to get a bowl of rice a day to every person at 2 Billion - 5 Billion - or 7.5 Billion)

The issue is the biproducts of consumption - and the effect of this consumption on the planet. Only a small fraction of the world is industrialized - 1.4 Billion out of 7 in a study I read a decade ago. Perhaps we are at 1.8 right now.

China at the time was (11) .. first world (36) ... bowl of rice a day - (1).

The study stated that if China was to reach first world consumption levels - world resource production would have to double. And that's just China .. India and a host of other nations are also industrializing.

Population growth exacerbates the above equation.

Why would think that teenagers would take control of the earth regardless of the demographics of the earth ??
