no, have you heard them.... they ban them as they do not want to promote their message of hate on their servers, one can create their own site for that, no one should force facebook to pay for others hate speech

To think there are people prepared to die for the rights of losers like this to ruin public discourse is both amusing and, perhaps, something to be encouraged. Stand up for your beliefs, patriots, do that thing you claim you're prepared to do.

Or maybe stop lying to yourselves that you'd even fart on command to save the freedom of these kinds of pricks.

The liberalized western lexicon has been changed - 'right wing' has to be prefixed by 'extreme' (right wing, 'far' (right wing)' or 'the hard' (right wing). Think 'newspeak', to demonize a particular group?

Congratulations. Now do you have an opinion on FB banning certain users based on their political views?

“Family friendly” refers to f-bombs (completely allowed on FB) and “adult content” (ie nudity/porn) which is already not allowed on FB.

“Hate speech” is whatever the people in charge say it is.

And you’re making my point quite nicely thank you... when a handful of oligarchs get to be the arbiters of speech, you can kiss our free and open society good bye.

Facebook's primary business goal wan't to act as a political forum - it was designed as a way for friends and family members to keep contact. Why should they be FORCED to become something they aren't just to please angry ranters? They aren't saying, "You can't say that ..." they're saying, "I'm not obligated to display that." Hardly the "hair-on-fire - end of the world" thing you claim.

Well the moderate elements of both sides (ie “regular people”) rarely make headlines. I think what you are seeing is an effort to morph those moderates into the fringe by the opposition on both sides. Now if you salute the flag on Veterans’ Day you are a white nationalist, and if you support an athlete expressing his views by taking a knee during the National Anthem, you are ANTIFA.

I don’t disagree and I said so in my OP. It’s their platform, they can police it any way they see fit. That said, FB allows and actually encourages thousands of special interest groups, including those with some political disposition. So I have to respectfully disagree with your position above: FB is really whatever its users make it.

My point is that in a free and open society, a site like FB has every right to censor its platform. The question is whether it should. And that is the topic of this thread.

But where do you draw the line? And how do you draw the line? Some guy in a windowless office somewhere monitoring FB posts and saying “uh oh... that’s hateful! pull the plug on this group and that personality.”

How is that helpful to a free and open society?

facebook owns the site, it's a their say, start you own to compete and you can have the final say

oh, ad after you create it, be sure to let others tell you how to run it

do you think fox will give me a 5pm time slot for free? or do they have a handful of oligarchs that decide what shows to allow (arbiters of speech)

I think maybe they should allow it - but such posts should be placed in boxes with big disclaimers announcing that the person posting the information has a history of writing bull crap information.

    Yes, I said that already.

Everyone is entitled to express their opinion.

Non sequitur. A television network’s content is not created by end users.

Lol. There would be A LOT of boxes.

How about this... caveat emptor. Let me make up my own mind. Let me do my own investigation, gather my own facts, and draw my own conclusions.

I did not ask you if water is wet. You have stated a fact (non sequitur at that) when you were asked for an opinion.

In the US there is this thing called private property. Facebook is private property. Anyone and everyone can create their own web sites, with their own rules.

One can write angry letters to the newspaper but the newspaper is under no obligation to publish those letters.

Lol. Now you are parroting what I’ve already stated in my OP. I am not asking you if they can. That is not under dispute, nor is it the topic of this thread. I am asking you if they should.

The People should hate Totalitarian Left and recognize them as The Enemy. I am proud of President Trump for calling out The Enemy of The People.

I'm all for open dialog, on any subject. Yet, as things like facebook have proven, it just turns into white noise. Most of what is discussed nowadays is of no real value. Much of it not even truthful.

As far as I care, they can take Farrakhan and Alex Jones, put them on a boat together, and set the boat adrift in the middle of the Pacific.

Don't make us laugh. When you are to ignorant to even know what totalitarian means we cannot be impressed by an imaginary math degree.

They should censor their site to make sure that what is presented as fact is fact and that opinion is properly labeled as opinion.

Why? Why is it their responsibility? Shouldn't that be your responsibility as the consumer of the message?
