Faith in Government

This impeachment demonstrates a serious departure from America's concept of nobody being above the law and of the right of oversight by congress.

Warren had an outstanding question, directed to Chief Justice Roberts:

“At a time when large majorities of Americans have lost faith in government, does the fact that the chief justice is presiding over an impeachment trial in which Republican senators have thus far refused to allow witnesses or evidence contribute to the loss of legitimacy of the chief justice, the Supreme Court and the Constitution?”

How can this impeachment NOT reduce faith in government?

It's all but certain that the result is going to absolve the president of crimes that the vast majority of congress believes he most certainly committed. And, the only justification is that the president is above the law.

As for the SC, the founders clearly chose the chief justice for a reason. But, this impeachment doesn't follow even the fundamental that there be evidence and witnesses.

His total ineffectiveness is just further evidence that our system is NOT what our founders intended.

The House had all the time in the world to call witnesses and to go through the courts to settle any disputes over them. But nooo, the Dems were in a hurry and F up... Didn't they say that they had all the facts.

 

First only a complete fool places anything more than an absolute minimal trust in government and the only faith I have in government is it's unlimited ability to create, with the best of intentions, hell on earth.

Oh and thus far Trump has been vastly more effective than Obama ever was or Biden ever will be.

I don't see any good reason to believe that. Our immigration system is a white supremacist disaster (while Obama caused the creation of a complete overhaul in the bill of 2013 that was created and approved by both party). Our healthcare system (created under Obama by a bipartisan committee) has been under constant assault with no replacement proposed and with the president lying about protecting coverage of preexisting conditions - which we got through Obama.

We've got a trillion dollar yearly deficit and slow growth even after the recovery that Trump inherited and with the damage caused by poorly though out tariffs and ceding pacific trade organization to other nations.

Now far more importantly, we find that the president is above the law and that our checks and balances system we used to tout has been removed.

 

She asked a seriously important question.

This impeachment is NOT a valid or fair trial and it overturns checks and balances documented in our constitution.

And, Roberts stood by, saying nothing.

 

Typical BS enforcing the borders isn't racist. In fact a failure to enforce the borders led directly to a humanitarian crisis in that region.

 

Obviously that doesn't justify choosign to ignore our constitution OR to start having trials where no documents or testimony may be provided.

 

He has no role in this. He’s there to maintain order; not to direct the proceedings.

 

Separating families such that children can NEVER be reunited with their parents is so far from requirements central in our laws on children demonstrates loudly and clearly that those escaping death threats at home are considered less than human.

If there is a justification outside of raw white supremacy, I haven't heard it from this administration.

If there were no reason for him to be there, the constitution wouldn't direct that the chief justice is required to preside.

So why is the Senate not calling witnesses that would clear Trump?

 

The Princeton Study evidenced using 2 decades of congressional record that only sspecial interests are represented by congress.

A republic is a form of democracy where elected reps of the people represent the best intetests of the people . .If they do not do this you have a republic in name only.

And yet we only care if trump stays or goes and dont give a damn if the republic does not exist.

I find that incredibly stupid.

You say Warren had an outstanding question. I say she was disrespectfully outside the lines and stupid.

 

She was directly on point.

This is EXACTLY the kind of thing that presents one more way that we can NOT trust our government to work.

Even Republicans recognize that the resident is guilty.

And, with the articles being constitutional fundamentls, this is a serious degrading of our nation, making it more difficult that Republicans (at least) have any respect for the law or our constitution.
