Stop posting about agriculture if you don't actually know anything about. Do a five ****ing second google search on soybean subsidies and then come back and tell me you still feel sorry for those welfare sloths

If you mean dairy cows then hell yes. We dump tens of millions of gallons every year in wasted surplus because of ****ing idiotic dairy subsidies.

I have less sympathy for the dairy guys. It's their own fault for planting so many cows. :)
But I have a soft spot for the soybeans cause Trump just screwed them while they were bent over planting.

Donald Trump can do no wrong, so I guess this is actually a good thing. Somehow.

Trump does tons of **** wrong and he is human waste receptacle. But just like one of those old timey clock thingies with the sticks, he is going to be right once in a while and getting into a trade war with China (which we WILL win big time) is long overdue. You do realize that we have lost hundreds of billions in market share in China because they steal intellectual property and then Chinese companies at the behest of the Chinese Communist Party or even wholly owned by the CCP sell cheap knockoffs which means lost sales for our manufacturers.

Its a ****ing trade war so why is anyone expecting there not to be any casualties. In the end we MUST open up the Chinese market and force China to start enforcing international copyright laws. In some areas such as automobiles China is the leading world market and they should be playing fair. Its not like we can rip off their innovations because they are **** at actually creating stuff.

I can't stand any subsidies, its ****ing corporate welfare. We are forever stuck with ****ing ethanol subsidies even now that many environmentalists agree that ethanol in gas was a stupid idea. Look how long it took to get rid of tobacco subsidies for crying out loud, something that everyone, even cigarette companies, acknowledge has absolutely no positive value and causes illness.

Hmmm.,, You don't "plant" cows, they are bred....by bulls, to make young calves, and if they are heifers....where they become, cows.

You bring up a good point? I was feeling sorry for the soybean farmers and thinking we should help them through this rough patch but apparently they get plenty of help already.

Soybean Subsidies in the United States totaled $35.6 billion from 1995-2016.

Or maybe, just maybe, they won't increase them and (in my wildest dreams not involving Summer Glau) they might end subsidies entirely. I doubt it because Trump has shown no serious intention of reigning in spending, but I can dream.

Will this actually have much impact on American jobs, or are we mostly talking about gigantic Agro corporations that typically hire migrant laborers from another country south of the border?

I can't imagine that the mark up and profit margin on soybeans are very high, so I would guess the latter.
It's not like some family farm is going to be driven out of business because of this. Farming soybeans you need at least 35 acres to make it economically justifiable.

A grower doesnt need migrant labor for soybeans, they have combines now to harvest the crop.

In the past EWG has included market assisting loans that are paid back with interest as a subsidy. They are not to be trusted.

It would be great if there were no need for farm subsidies but agricultural goods are almost always first on the list when sanctions are placed on other nations, regardless of which party is in power or who is President . You might remember Nixon's soybean embargo, or Carter's Russian grain embargo, or Reagan's dairy buyout that destroyed the beef market or his Plaza Accord, or the many other long term trade sanctions that limit the exporting of U.S. farm goods.

Subsidies, for better or worse, ensure a cheap and stable food supply, they help to keep family farms in business rather than be sold to the wealthy elite and multinational corporations.

If food is to be used as a weapon and markets manipulated by government, farmers deserve just compensation for the loss of income.

They do export a significant amount of food to the US, and none of it is anything the US really needs.
