No, it's "I'm not your friend." Grammar and capitalization are important when you're trying to convince others that, regardless of your nationality, you just might possess a functioning intellect.
Being a film or TV actor is only famous by superficial standards. The famous Australians we learnt about in school included people such as - Sir Edward 'Weary' Dunlop - honoured for his tireless and compassionate treatment of prisoners of war in the Japanese POW camps. Dr Herbert Vere Evatt - first President of the United Nations. Baron Howard Walter Florey - Nobel Laureate for his discovery of antibiotiocs. (Penicillin was discovered by Fleming, but developed as an antibiotic by Florey.) George Percy Grainger - musician and composer. Professor Fred Hollows - born in NZ, but educated and worked in Australia. Opthalmologhist and humanitarian, famous for restoring sight to third world peoples across the world. Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith - first aviator to fly from the USA to Australia. Bert Hinkler - first aviator to fly solo from England to Australia. Norman Lindsay - artist and writer Sir Mark Oliphant - physicist, played a crucial role in the splitting of the atom. Patrick White - Nobel Laureate in Literature Dame Joan Sutherland - opera singer & diva. Sir Donald Bradman - famous cricketer. The Rev. Doctor John Flynn - founded the Royal Flying Doctor Service. These were people who made a contribution to humanity worldwide.
Good lord Leo, do you mean to tell me that this isn't your typical Australian dressed in traditional Australian clothing?
Yes, Percy was very talented. Also, his father designed Melbourne's Princess Bridge. I've been over (and under) that thing a few hundred times.
You've gotta see this... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SPjy5RlqFE"]Aussie Drunk Man walk through fence - YouTube[/ame]
LOLZ! Yes Crocodile Dundee was the biggest con ever. I have been in Australia over two years now, and I am here to tell you that the average Aussie I have seen, is more likely to be dressed in a dark grey pin-stripe suit, be carrying a brief case, and driving a black BMW. Australia is the most urbanised country in the world.
I only saw the first Dundee movie and quit it after about 30 minutes. I found it very demeaning to what really characterizes average Australians.
You are right. I only saw it recently on DVD, and it was trite and childish crap. The Aussies, much like their American masters, do themselves a great disservice by the picture of themselves they export. Neither Americans, nor Australians, are accurately represented by the self-portrayal Hollywood and the Australian film industry produces.
Hate to break this to you LEO but that movie was fiction and was never intended to be taken seriously.
If you really want to see a movie which comes close to characterising the average Aussie then watch "The Castle"
Yep, that's exactly what I was going to post. The Castle is a classic. Rob Sitch has another movie out at the moment, shot in Melbourne. http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/movies/a-working-dogs-life-20120202-1qtu5.html
Unable to argue, must agree with ian, head exploding.... The Castle was the 80's and Kat and Kim was the 90's, anything do the 2000's?
Forget about Gibson, we want nothing to do with him. Same with Nicole, box office poison. We have Bill Hunter. Or, we had Bill Hunter, I should say. RIP. We have Toni Collette...
He was a fun act alright. When he died, a lot of the feminazis and watermellons tried to spin that the animal kingdom finally punished him for being disrespectful to them. He even went out with a good joke.
Having grown up 100 kilometres from Sydney, which is a very beautiful city, I also love Melbourne. Great food, museums, art galleries and very easy to get around. Also Victorians must be the biggest sports nuts on this planet. I believe the Melbourne Cricket Ground still holds the world record for the largest attendance for a weekend club match.
Until you drive 200 kilometres from a major urban centre. I love rural Australia. Some of the nicest easiest going people I've met. Probably indicative of rural dwellers world wide.
