President Obama is hoping to re-create the conditions that propelled him to the presidency in 2008: an energized base, fervently in search of "that hope-y, change-y thing," as Sarah Palin has put it; complete with lots of first-time voters, including a higher-than-normal youth vote.

But recent polls show that this sort of enthusiasm is lacking in 2012.

    From yesterday:

"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 24% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-three percent (43%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19."

Here is a link to the website: Daily Presidential Tracking Poll - Rasmussen Reports

However, the stories have changed within the last 24 hours.

If Romney picks Rubio as his running mate, he will win easily unless he makes a major major blunder.

as i said over on my thread,I just hope its not the same across the country like it is in my state where that for every Ron Paul bumper sticker I see on cars,I see 10 more Obama 2012 Bumper stickers and surprisingly, half these people I observe driving these cars are white folks.

He will not pick Rubio...first Rubio is also a Mormon and also Rubio has no executive background. He will be "groomed" for later down the road. He will probably pick Governor Bob McDonnell of Virginia, a staunch conservative and former Army Lt. Col.

Only 27% believe that the country is heading in the right direction.

Its looking really bad for Obama.

Let me guess. You are dismissing a poll because you don't like the results?

    LOL

No, we're dismissing the poll because Rasmussen is always an extreme outlier when compared to other polls.

Bingo! I simply googled that figure and it came up in an ad for Scott Rasmussen's newsletter full of conservative rubbish.

Even if you dismiss this poll you can't debate the fact that the majority of voters still do not agree with the way the country is going. This will have a major effect on Obama's attempt to get re-elected. This was evident in 2010 and nothing has changed other than getting worse.

What's to approve of? His one objective should have been to help the economy recover. The best way would to be to ease up the burdens of govt. He did the opposite.

RealClearPolitics' averaging of seven major national polls conducted since March 7 shows that while Obama has a 43 percent unfavorable rating, Romney is at 46 percent unfavorable. And Obama's favorable rating is 52 percent, giving him a net favorable rating, while Romney's favorable rating is at an even less impressive 38 percent.

Both candidates have high unfavorablility ratings although Obama has higer ratings for varorable::

How can Romney be judged favorably or not when he isn't even in politics and is still campaigning. This means that half the nation disapproves of Obama which is extremely bad for him.

How do you judge a nominee for the President really? How do they decide to vote or not vote for a nominee?

Rasmussen is ALWAYS about 5 points behind all the other polls. There were even talkes about Rasmussen taken pay offs from the GOP to skew the polls.

So, no, Rasmussen by itself is certainly NOT a reliable source. I would take Rasmussen polls as part of a MIX of other polls, but certainly NOT by itself!

But, all together, if you want to follow only ONE poll, you need to do it consistently, and see how the numbers go up and down, not look at the numbers on one isolate day or week.

I personally take Gallup as my "main" poll sources, but I look at all the poll sources to get a fair view of what the trends are.

    TRY THIS THEN

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/direction_of_country-902.html

    Avg. 61.8% Wrong track
    NBC, 59% wrong track
    CBS, 61% wrong
    Reuters, 60% wrong
    Rass, 65% wrong
    ABC, 64% wrong.

The ONLY difference is that Rasmussen canvases LIKELY VOTERS and the rest all canvas REGISTERED VOTERS.

Rasmussen is within 10% of the most optimistic result.

Also Rasmussen is close to other polls in the approve/disapprove of the job obama has done. But Rasmussen ALSO asks the STRONGLY approve or disapprove question too. The others only ask approve/disapprove. Rasmussen asks both.

Well. . . I've got news for you! Romney will not be in politics and will still be campaigning on November 5th, 2012. . .so what are you saying? That we will know nothing until at least midnight on November 6th. . .that's fair enough!

But then why are you defending the Rasmussen skewed poll?

No, dear, we are not ALL aware that we need a new President! In fact there is a good 50% of the American population who disagree that we need to replace President Obama with the question mark Romney.

You are not talking for "all" of us. You obviously have the right to express YOUR opinion. . .but do not try to spin YOUR opinion as that of ALL Americans!

What's to approve of with Romney?

No one even KNOWS what Romney would do. . .and his "promises" are just words that try to please his basis. . . and is not very successful at it!

I am VERY please with Obama. He has put in place many of his promises, and has worked hard to fulfill even more promises that would have been fulfilled without the NAY sayer Congress.

At least I KNOW what Obama can do for us, and what he can't (based on the total stone walling he has received from Congress). . .NO ONE has any idea what Romney would do. . .except, obviously, cut taxes for his friends in the top 1%.

Why not look at what Romney did as Governor to see how he has tackled problems? Also which of these promises has Obama actually kept? He has broken far more of them then he has kept.

As for the republicans blocking him, why don't you look at Harry Reid who won't even let republicans bring their bills to the Senate floor for a vote. Add to this the fact that Obama had two years to pass whatever he wanted, and did nothing basically, and it does not look good for Obama.

We threw you guys out and 2010 and round 2 is fast approaching. We didn't buy your lies then and we aren't going to now.
