Both Dems and Repubs. Repubs please place into context of whom you believe would be the toughest opponent to Trump. thanks

I'm a Democrat. I agree with points made by all the current contestants for the Presidential nomination. Polls seem to support Biden as the one with the best chance of beating Trump in 2020, but I'm not convinced. Biden is a good man, who has demonstrated an ability to change with the times. He was a good VP for Obama, and is, in today's terms, a politicl moderate. However, Biden has never demonstrated himself to be a strong campaigner, and might be out-maneuvered or over-shadowed by the glib Trump. It's early in the game, but right now I feel K. Harris might be the best candidate, simply because of her intense positive attitude, & her enthusiasm for involving everyone in her America, regardless of color, religion, age, gender, or even political persuasion. She strikes me as a unifier, and that's something Trump absolutely isn't. Whichever Democrat ends up getting the nomination, they will get my vote in the general election.

I vote democrat myself. I differ with you on both Harris and Biden as they both support regime change wars and are to cozy with the health insurance corporations. I am behind Tulsi Gabbard. Like her I want to use the billions that we are spending in the middle east in the US modernizing our infrastructure. This is money spent locally and has a benefit locally rather than wasting money on armanaments and the lives of our kids in the middle east.

Biden is a good person and would make a welcome change from the boor that now lives in the white House. But he has that same Bush/Clinton/Oboma wall street stink on him. Harris to me is a dark skinned Hillary who would say anything or do anything to be elected.

My youngest son likes him also, But he has yet to make his mind up. Unlike any of the other candidates, you know where he stands. He has position papers on every topic.

He's a smart boy. It's best to look before you leap.

Unfortunately everyone has to wait until at least the first Democratic debate before the other candidates start filling in their policy positions.

Of course Andrew Yang is going to be judged by his performance at the first debate too. (I think he met the criteria to go to the first debate.)

I'm Republican. I think Biden would have the best chance because he is moderate enough to pick up a few Reps who just don't like Trump. However, you have to go pretty far left to get the Dem nomination, so I doubt he'll win. And if he goes that far left, he won't be able to win national election, so you have a quandary. My money is on Kamala Harris; she's female and black, and she looks young.

Libertarian here, I like Yang because he at least says how he is going to pay for his plans. but I think Harris has the best shot to beat Trump.

Huh? she wants to keep Obomacare, and she is ok with regime change wars and spending trillions of dollars to do so. Like Hillary she will say whatever the audience in front of her wants her to say that day. her and biden are wall street's favorite Dems. Neither will go back to Glass Seagal, hell they even want to roll back Dodd-Frank.

You think young people care about that stuff? Maybe if you make enough memes about it.

I have a 32 year old and a 24 year old and both would have rather spent the 7 trill that we spent in the middle east over the last 15 years on infrastructure here. Trump himself had support from anti-wall street voters before he showed that he was just as far in thier pocket with the tax cut he put together.

I can only go by what they and their friends say. Now both my kids have advanced degrees so their circle of friends may not reflect 100% true to the whole population and kids in Mass are better educated than average and are exposed to more liberal thought than somebody from Arkansas.

None of them excite me and I think none of them have effective debate strategies to counter Trump’s bluster. The left needs an elder statesmen like Biden but it seems that the party wants new blood. It will be entertaining if nothing else when Trump wins in 2020. The democrats seem disorganized while team Trump is just getting stronger.

I think that this election the democrats need something new.

Biden seems to be in trouble at the moment plus he's old and will basically have to run on Obama's platform, he also doesn't reflect the current hard left tack the democratic party is going.

They really have no one at this point that is standing out.

They need like an Oprah Winfrey or Chelsea Clinton to energize them but it's still early so we will see once the rhetoric heats up.

Beto seems to be popular but he doesn't have the resume in anything to put up a serious bid, he couldn't even be the garden gnome.

Any democrat running will have to also offset the Bernie Sanders impact who is going to suck a plethora of votes from the democrats, especially after what the DNC did to him last time.

There is no challenger to Trump so that is a moot point.

Obviously you have never looked into Sanders, who explain in great detail. Of course it doesn't fit with your narrative tho, bummer huh?

The attack ads against biden from other dems might be severe. I don't know if he can survive the public image the Dems will assign him given his trackrecord with women.

    Time will tell

True. As an update on the post you were responding to, I discovered early this morning that Marianne Williamson is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President. I didn't know she was running. I went to the internet & listened to several interviews of her about her candidacy, and was tremendously impressed. I agreed with EVERYTHING she said, so now, I have switched from mainly supporting K. Harris to supporting M. Williamson. I hope you & everyone reading this post will take a few moments to watch her being interviewed & evaluate her for yourselves. She's definitely different. :)

I'm not a Democrat but Tulsi Gabbard seems like a great candidate for the left. I made a thread about it back in 2016 or so.
