BODY-BASED VIEW VS. SPIRIT-BASED VIEW. John 6:63 - "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. (The body/mind cannot receive the things of the spirit.) Isaiah 2:22 - "Sever yourselves from such a man, whose breath is in his nostrils; for of what account is he?" (Compare to Job 27:3) (Know yourSelf as separate and even alien to the flesh "man".) Romans 2:29 - "but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter" (The "heart" is that which you love because in those days it was believed that love originates in the heart. What do you love in this life? -Your flesh, mind, understandings, desires, expectations, beliefs, possessions, knowledge, purposes, etc.) 1st Corinthians, 2:14 - "But the natural man ("human/mind") does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth ("knoweth") all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. (The body/world oriented man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God.) I Corinthians 3:1-2 "And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able." (Some do not have "ears to hear") I Corinthians 3:18 - "If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For wisdom of this world is foolishness with God." (The spiritual truth is not "reasonable" to the spirit. It is foolishness to the spirit. Drop it. This is "overcoming the world".) John 3:5 - "Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit." (Our body-based perspective will not do.) (If you believe you are your body and that you are "born again of the Spirit", you are deceiving yourself.) Galatians 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. (Again, if you believe you are your body and that you are "born again of the Spirit", you are deceiving yourself.) Galatians 5:17 - "For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish." Galatians 6:8 - "For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." (Do you understand the bible to be about "demographics" and what's beneficial to humans? If so you "soweth to the flesh".)
Galatians 5:17 "For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would." Romans 8:8 "So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God." Please God? Do you mean bear righteous fruit? (this is frightening... if this lack of righteous fruit bearing becomes a motion that requires an outside motion to get it off course)
Spirit is a human invention to cope with death and the unknown. We are just our brains, bones, blood, meat. Personality, consciousness sure, but no such thing as a spirit.
