Remember when a dozen large eggs cost $2.00 or maybe $3.00 as recently as the Trump time. Now the cost is near $8.00! Same for beef and real food. What To Do? Moi
I think Biden needs something like Trump did with "Operation Warp Speed" to create a vaccine for Bird Flu. Unfortunately a lot of anti-vaxers would probably protest so it probably would not work. Maybe Operation Roadrunner speed. Beep, beep...
Wrong! How about recognizing Food is a means of national defense And limit egg exports as make our eggs reasonably priced. Moi Defend Food Production
~ I picked up Farmer John's bacon for $2.oo !! No eggs ... Some things are disappearing from the shelves – only to reappear a few weeks later at double the price . Conspiracy !
I buy free range eggs from an egg farm. Au$5.60 for the largest ones. Similar price in the supermarket but the eggs are smaller. Bacon is Au$10.00 per kilo. Food prices are up everywhere. Ukraine is the biggest wheat exporter and thus, stock is up in price.
I guess I'll buy some chicks this spring. Then wait 12 to 14 weeks for eggs. If I can find any chicks. We usually get a good selection around here. But who knows with bird flu. And the price? 2.50 ....at least....for chicks....14 dollars a bag .....at least for feed. And feeding free for 3 or four months.....nevermind....... I wonder what rabbit bring.
My City of Newport Beach The O.C. forbids farm animals Oh, all those cute Vietnamese Pot Belly Pigs. GWTW as pets Moi
I can pick up a couple of pigs at woodland pretty cheap. Less than 50 bucks each.. 20.00 a bag for feed....feed free for 3 or 4 months. I usually get about one pound of pig to four pounds of feed...need to build containment for hogs.....nevermind.....I wonder what quail bring?
Turkey chicks run over 8 bucks a chick.....I think. Should get one pound if turkey for two pounds of feed. I have a place with some fixed will house them. Whoops.....over ten bucks for good turkey chicks. But who wants to eat turkey all the time?
Soybeans....it would probably be best to buy the soybeans at over 15.00 a bushel. Now, to turn it into meat.??..? You could also soak and roll out corn for corn flakes. And grind your own flower.
We had some fake meat a couple weeks ago. Bought by accident. It wasn't that bad. But it wasn't that good. The color looked like....well you know.
If you live rural or suburban, get chickens, get a decent vegetable patch going, get a rainwater tank. You can cover a fair chunk of your food bill yourself without much difficulty. Keep in mind, there aren't many better countries to live in for food security than the US. You are the world's largest food producer. In any case where famine hits the US most of the rest of the world will already be dead from starvation. Still, self-sufficiency never hurts.
True, true. I remember some liberal on this forum talking about how inflation will go down by 2024, thus helping Biden get a second term, but prices keep going up. When are those prices supposedly going down?
I was in Japan while there was a chicken shortage (chicken flu or something in China) and I had tofu McNuggets. Not a riveting experience.
It is a real drag when you check on them and something takes the heads off through the chicken wire at night.
