https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/aust...rnment-association-says/ar-AAw274v?li=AAgfIYZ Wow, as it couldn't get worse, we will soon stop recycling to top off the bad news. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...opt-ocean-pollution-latest-news-a8198761.html I mean, if others find ways to minimize their rubbish, increase their recycling percentage, why can't we? We are the slaves of the multis, big enterprises, when do we say no? It is so disillusioning, reg.
Our recycling has been a bit of a joke. We send our rubbish to China and we think that is a good thing? It's ludicrous. The government needs to take a strong stand . A refundable deposit on plastic bottles is a start and some encouragement to manufacturers to use recyclable materials which don't have to be sent out of the country to be processed.
I have to say though I know many of the towns sut west do not recycle as it is too expensive to ship everything back but surely there is SOMETHING we can do other than foul up this beautiful planet we live on
Some good news for you m2catter...... https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2018/04/enzyme-dissolves-plastic-pollution-science-spd/ Enzyme That Eats Plastic Accidentally Found in Lab A surprise find may eventually help scientists clean up the glut of plastic pollution around the world.
I would recycle, but my council has given us these tiny little waste bins to force us into recycling. I've contacted them multiple times, they refuse to send a larger bin. I live in a house of 6 blokes, we make a lot of trash. As a consequence of this "green" policy I have to throw a lot of general waste into the enormous recycling bin. Talk about policy backfire.
Go 600km West of Telfer. Dig a 5kmx5km hole. Fill a layer with with re-enforced concrete. Dump it all there. Problem solved. It's a big place, Australia.
Our locality recently got a much bigger recycling bin, on wheels, almost as big as the garbage can, you no longer have to sort, and recycling volume is way up. Not as good as all biodegradable packaging but it's a start. If they would make shoplifting a felony with hard time and enforce it, the packaging wouldn't have to be made openable only with sheet metal shears, and that would help.
And that is a good way to store the materials for future use. As resources dwindle, it will become profitable to "mine" the trash dumps for the materials that were dumped in them. Consider it a favor to future generations. Not sure how welfare works over there, but an alternative would be to give the welfare recipients a haz-mat suit, and put them in the dumps sorting the recyclables. Let them work for that taxpayer funded pay check.
