France announced on Friday that it is immediately recalling its ambassadors to the United States and Australia in protest of President Biden’s announcement of an agreement to provide nuclear-powered submarines to Australia without consulting French officials.

In a statement, the French foreign minister said the decision was made by French President Emmanuel Macron.

“At the request of the President of the Republic, I have decided to immediately recall our two ambassadors to the United States and Australia to Paris for consultations,” Jean-Yves Le Drian, the foreign minister said. “This exceptional decision is justified by the exceptional gravity of the announcements made on 15 September by Australia and the United States.”

The decision by Mr. Macron deepened the rift between the two longstanding allies over the submarine deal, which American and Australian officials kept secret from the French until just before the announcement on Wednesday.

In the statement announcing that the ambassador, Philippe Étienne, would return temporarily to Paris — a severe diplomatic step that is usually used against adversaries — Mr. Le Drian made it clear that his country sees the actions of the two nations as a serious breach of trust.

He said the U.S.-Australia partnership constitutes “unacceptable behavior between allies and partners, the consequences of which affect the very conception we have of our alliances, our partnerships and the importance of the Indo-Pacific for Europe.”

Bad News for the Biden Administration continues to roll-out as we head into the weekend.

I honestly didn't think France had it in them to recall their ambassador from the United States, but I'm not shocked that an ally has sent a diplomatic insult towards to Biden Administration. I've watched the local news in Europe, and there's been negative sentiments towards the Administration after Biden went to the Cornwall Summit.

What do you guys make of this French decision?

The Frenchies should place a lot of the blame on the Aussies because they’re the ones who made the decision to get the subs. But so many of our allies are pissed at Biden right now that being pissed at Biden is all the European rage, it’s what the fashionable European is doing this fall.

Maybe build submarines that don't have glass tops.

    The French can't help that.

It's amazing that 90% of their energy comes from their nuclear plants that they'd sign on to the left's global "screw the worker scam". But they did.

Biden has convinced the Aussies that his green technology solar powered submarines are far superior to anything the French have.

Yeah... But their nuclear energy is based on older scientific advancements. There are cleaner, more efficient, and safer nuclear energy sources with lower, short-lived radioactive waste product.

At this point, France is looking to natural gas as a more efficient reserve of reliable energy, and their reversal towards the Russian pipeline is indicative of their needs. It's absurd that the Democrats have rejected the infrastructure necessary to construct these natural gas transportation facilities that are essential to freighter ports, despite the fact that our allies (Europe, Australia, Canada) have built these facilities due to the cleaner nature of natural gas. This has been a monumental foreign policy and economic blunder for the Biden Administration.

Also, the Biden Administration is pursuing green energy initiatives that require mined materials like Lithium and Graphene. We need to import these materials from countries like China, even though we have deposits in the United States. Yet, Democrats are putting roadblocks in front of mines and potential sites due to environmental concerns. It's just crazy. I have investments in companies that supply Tesla and other energy companies with the materials needed. It's crazy.

Now, what do you think the average person would consider the 2 most important words in that sentence that your thread title intentionally leaves out??

Still the larger question is why do I respond to such BS threads... no clear answer to that one....

France’s foreign affairs chief also said that this “unilateral and unpredictable decision” reminded him of what former President Donald Trump used to do.

Apparently Australia decided they want nuke subs and France was only going to give them non-nuke subs.

Don't be mistaken, France is very upset with the loss of the contract worth $40B and who wouldn't be. Plus they rightfully feel their allies went behind their back which they apparently did. Seems Australia opted for the nuclear powered subs instead of France's non-nuclear subs.

I hear that.... I really haven't followed this story much to be honest... but when I saw that intentional omission from the guts of the story, I had to point that out...

Seems France's bigger gripe is with Australia... if they want to upgrade to what we can provide and can afford it, I don't see the huge deal here... unless France provided something that Australia didn't pay for? France will find another market for their tier 2 subs...

And of course, the America First crowd is behind this 100%, right?? We make some bucks and allow for a stronger presence in the Pacific for an ally over....... hmmm.... I'll guess Borneo???

    Right??

France is upset at the loss of $40B you say. How long would it take for Biden to print up that much and ship it off to France if they just shut the hell up.

France needs to mind its business.

Simply because we are allies and members of NATO and the UN doesn't give them authority over our affairs.

Recall your ambassadors. That doesn't affect us in the slightest.

From my vantage point, my main thought is: Why shouldn't Australia purchase both our subs and the French ones? To me, there's no reason to exclude the French from this deal and I'd love to diplomatically find a solution that brings France back on board.

I do not subscribe to the idea that the French are cowardly or militarily inept. Without the French we would still be subjects of the English King. Many of them were killed at Yorktown and elsewhere fighting for us.

If not for the Atlantic Ocean, we would have been run over by the Germans like the French were in WWII. This is demonstrated by the early days of the U-Boat campaign against the US.

    https://thehill.com/homenews/admini...adors-to-us-australia-in-protest-of-submarine

France on Friday recalled its ambassadors to the United States and Australia in protest of a new partnership between the two countries to deliver Australia nuclear-powered submarines.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said in a statement Friday afternoon that the decision was made by French President Emmanuel Macron.

“This exceptional decision is justified by the exceptional gravity of the announcements made on 15th September by Australia and the United States,” the foreign minister said.

“The cancellation of the Attack class submarine program binding Australia and France since 2016, and the announcement of a new partnership with the United States meant to launch studies on a possible future cooperation on nuclear-powered submarines, constitute unacceptable behavior between allies and partners, whose consequences directly affect the vision we have of our alliances, of our partnerships and of the importance of the Indo-Pacific for Europe,” he added.

France has reacted angrily to the new partnership between the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, including by canceling a gala planned in Washington, D.C. The foreign minister earlier this week compared President Biden to former President Trump over the agreement, recalling the frequent unilateral decisions of the prior administration.

    =======================================

The French subs are inferior, but this is not how to treat our longest running ally.

Everything Biden touches turns to ****. He's an absolute disaster on the international scene. From China walking out on us, to China denying a call from Biden to Xi, to North Korea, to Iran, to the Afghanistan withdrawal, to Saudi Arabia refusing to increase production to Mexico being pissed off at us along with El Salvador and Honduras.

Biden is a not stop **** show.
