Workers are saying the ground is cracking and emitting steam.

This is a sign of the corium material (melted reactor core) is working its way deeper into the earth by evaporation of the earth below, after known to have melted through the bottom of the reactor containments.

This is the "China Syndrome", an ironic reference to the idea that thre is nothing to stop a reactor meltdown - the very rocks beneath our feet will be vaporized by the uncontrolled reactor cores. It is only stopped by hitting a large quantity of water which then results in a good sized explosion, which could emit highly radioactive particles high into the atmosphere, the jet streams, etc.

Oh yeah, BTW, estimates are now Fukishima has emitted 20 times MORE radioactivity than the Hiroshima nuclear bomb.

It's not everyday that we get to live a piece of science fiction. Now we get to find out the real ending to the theories of planet-piercing nuclear disasters...

At least this happened in an age when ethnic groups are spread out across the globe. It looks like Asia is done. Perhaps the western-USA. Well, really, the whole norther hemisphere because the trade winds cycle it all around. The southern hemisphere is looking a lot nicer these days.
