A controversial billboard proclaiming that “nobody is born gay” has sparked a great deal of controversy in Richmond, Virginia, where it was recently put on display.
Paid for by Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays — an organization aimed at helping so-called “ex-gays” gain acceptance — the ad features a picture of male twins and reads, “Identical twins. One gay. One not. We believe twins research studies show nobody is born gay.”
While the billboard is offending local gay and lesbian advocates, Regina Griggs, executive director of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays, believes that critics aren’t looking at the facts, specifically when it comes to analyzing how same-sex attraction pertains to twins.
“Identical twins have the same genes or DNA. They are nurtured in equal prenatal conditions. If homosexuality is caused by genetics or prenatal conditions and one twin is gay, the co-twin should also be gay,” she said, according to WVUE-TV. “Because identical twins are always genetically identical, homosexuality cannot be genetically dictated. No one is born gay.”

    http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/12/11/nobody-is-born-gay-activists-outraged-by-billboards-message-about-homosexuality-and-genetics/

And the response: “I am shocked and really disappointed that at the end of 2014, we have a billboard in the middle of our city that says that kind of hate,” Beth Panilaitis, the organization’s executive director

No disputing the science being presented but claiming you must hate if you support the actual science. Perfect example of liberalism

People who insist that "nobody is born gay" is factual are idiots. For the not bright, "We believe twins research studies show nobody is born gay," is announcing that it's a matter of faith and not fact.

There is no science that suggests that being gay is choice. Just because you can't seem to find genetic evidence in a twin study doesn't make anything conclusive. It is hateful as are most anti-gay people. By the way there is no such thing as an Ex-gay.

Why are true patriots so obsessed with gay people and other folk's sex lives? I mean, don't get me wrong, being black I am grateful they turn their steely eyed condemnation to other People Who Ain't Like Me occasionally but am I the only person who finds it all a little bit creepy and weird?

There is no science that suggests it is genetic either.

"Hate" in relation to that billboard alone is excessive but the "science" it presents is flawed and misrepresented and they openly state they're expressing a belief anyway. I also wouldn't be surprised if they weren't being deliberately controversial to attract attention and trigger exactly this kind of over-reaction so they can play the innocent victim.

Though I don't support it, I can understand the statement about hate in the wider context of the organisation which put up the billboard, it's purpose, the implicit attitude to homosexuals who don't consider themselves in need of fixing that carries and the consequences such "treatment" can often have.

which would be relevant if someone posted a billboard that said "Being Gay is Genetic".

This is just a hateful lying bigoted nonsense billboard by small scared people who can't seem to be at peace with who they are.

Agreed. A gay guy can become celibate but he's still homosexual, just as a heterosexual guy can become celibate he's still heterosexual.

I am going to have to disagree with the assessment of this organization.

The rate of concordance of homosexuality in identical twins, referred to in this report as monozygote, is about 65.8%.

    http://www.hawaii.edu/PCSS/biblio/articles/1961to1999/1993-homosexual-orientation-in-twins.html

Now I understand it is important to the anti gay movement to point to one pair of identical twins who are not both gay nor both straight and say that is proof, but N=1 is a horrible data set to draw such a conclusion, especially considering when folks do not cherry pick, the conclusion that can be more easily reached is the opposite of what this group says.

    Well, let's see these facts.

    All ten of them.

    Again, show us the science.

There was a study done with twins that was supposed to support the claim that homosexuality is innate. The LeVay study? I believe it was about half of identical twins were both homosexual. I agree this proves beyond any doubt that homosexuality is not a genetic predisposition. I can't believe this study didn't shut the door on the born gay claim for good. The OP is right. Identical twins' genes are 100% identical. Gay is not genetic. End of story.

I'm still waiting for a conservative to tell us when they made the "CHOICE" to be heterosexual? Every heterosexual I've talked to has said they made no choice and they just were heterosexual.

    - - - Updated - - -

At what point did you CHOOSE to be heterosexual and not homosexual? For me, there was no choice I was just attracted to girls and NEVER boys. I was born the way I am, heterosexual.

That seems like an odd conclusion.

Amongst identical twins, where one is homosexual, the chances the second one is homosexual is 18.57 times higher than the general population.

Now, I think, that says the opposite of what you are claiming, namely that there is a predisposition.

That is the lamest and most often used retort. I know guys and girls that go either way. They're called bisexuals. Some didn't wake up one day and decide they were attracted to the same sex. They immersed themselves into the life of lust, promiscuity, pornography and instant gratification…and it happened. The decision to try gay was no different than the decision to try brussel sprouts. There was no ideological nor religious barriers to trying it; or those barriers were broken down. Sexual choices become less restrictive. Sexual exploration less inhibitive.

In our time, if you haven't watched at least one person BECOME gay as an adult, you don't get out much.

Maybe they're 18.57 times higher because of the same nurture and environment. The fact is identical twins genes are 100% identical. My older brother and I share a lot of the same interests.

Bi-sexuals are different than homosexuals and heterosexuals. Again, answer the question, when did you CHOOSE to be heterosexual and not homosexual? Why is a simple question Cons can't answer?

Dick Cheney's daughter is homosexual. Are you saying daddy abused her sexual and raised her in a life of lust, promiscuity, pornography and instant gratification?

Again, when did you CHOOSE to be heterosexual versus homosexual. I'll keep asking the question to Cons because they know they never chose to be what they are, they just were.

Hmmm. That seems like an odd conclusion, as I provided a report that states fraternal twins have a much lower rate than identical twins.

Well you were the one posting those were the reasons, so which abuse did daddy lay on her?

Not that long of an article.

EDIT: So when did you CHOOSE to be heterosexual and not homosexual?

You seem to conveniently ignore the fact that identical twins' genes are 100% identical. If gay is genetic, either one sibling chose to be gay or one chose to be straight. Take your pick.

This is another example of how liberals faced with empirical data, because of political correctness, can't muster the intellectual honesty to confront the truth.

    - - - Updated - - -

I didn't make a choice to switch. Ask a homosexual, not me.
