Quietly and without much fanfare, the German government has launched a full investigation into the NSA spy scandal where top German officials has their personal telephones wiretapped by the US government.

Earlier, Chancellor Angela Merkel termed the spying "a criminal intrusion" amid demands that Americans pay for the misdeeds..

The increasing domestic pressure to stage a full inquiry destroys Obama administration claims that the German authorities have been appeased and that there is no basis to a scandal.

"Can you hear me now, Hussein?"

I'm sure Vlad can arrange a meeting.

I mean, I agree it sucks when it's abused.... It's tough though, I kinda am ok with a certain amount of intrusion to keep us safer. There are some crazy people out there.

And since when did people get this pissed about spying? Hasn't everyone done this since like, heck I don't know forever?

Snowden should be careful about discussing anything with the Germans. They still have an extradition treaty with the USA, right?

But, yes, the anger appears to be real. And, with some of the major European nations already banding together on this it's probably going to be bad for future USA-European relations.

Mr. Snowden should think twice and come up with a better understanding of the situation. Going to a sattelite of the US is a suicide move.

    Go Merkel, and go Snowden!

I, as a European, feel insulted by the actions of the USA! I hope there will be some major consequences for this to teach arrogant american officials that they can't do whatever they want. I am in fact hoping there'll come a crisis or something in which the US would require European support, but then we'd just side with the opposition just to work against the US.

And don't you tell me European anti-americanism isn't justified after this.
