Read a news report this morning about a 29 year old woman who died while undergoing cosmetic surgery in Mexico. The woman was actually Australian, and had travelled to Mexico for the cheap surgery offered there. I guess it's another version of Thai medical tourism. Terribly sad, of course. But sadder to think that this woman, who was already stunningly beautiful - I mean seriously gorgeous, track down the item and have a look at the pics - was so flawed internally that she felt the need to do such a thing despite already having a cup which runneth over. My question, if you will, is that the news item made a point of her devout Christianity and formal studies in theology etc. Also, judging (and judging is all I can do at this remove) from the pics of this woman, her god doesn't appear to have been much use in regards to lessons in modesty and natural beauty. There is one pic in particular which shows her dressed up like a raving strumpet, boobs bursting out of tiny dress, make up, heels, etc. Far be it from me to suggest it's god's fault that she went so very wrong, but even making a cursory comparison to my own, far more demure atheist, leftist, liberal teenaged daughter, the whole thing is a little bizarre. What happened to the idea of devout Christianity making people better, and girls more modest? Granted no one is going to become perfect, but to go so far in the other direction while engaging in wholesale jesus love seems to suggest that it makes not a jot of difference if the person is flawed. Anyway, a terrible, terrible message for young women, and a tragedy for her loved ones - to lose a young life to such idiocy. to lose a young life period. Would be interested to hear opinions/thoughts. footnote: of course, this isn't a case of vanity, but of deep insecurity and a failure of parenting (to impress the importance of internal growth, while directing energies away from such inanities as appearance and approval seeking), but vanity seemed the best word to use in the title. And many folk do think of such obsessions with appearance as vanity ... mistakenly, but there it is.
Why do atheists expect God to show them something grand right in front of their faces just to show he exists? When he _does_ actually do something grand, they all are the first the deny it was God. Rather, its always blamed on something else. I honestly don't understand it.
Being 'religious' has become a bit of a fad. I have a relative who sometimes wears a cross around her neck and she is most definitely not biblically observant to the extent where I can guarantee she has not read more than a 3 verses of the book, she doesn't call herself christian either. Like I stated, it's just a nod to God so to speak but she hasn't 'got time' to read the bible. What that Nod represents I don't know.
As there seems to be no "God" in the first place....why would you think human failures would be swayed by it? She was a vain woman hoping to be something even better, and made very poor decisions to accomplish it...why bring a sky fairy into it.
Apparently this woman was on far more than nodding terms with Yahweh, given she was described as devout, and had studied theology etc. You would think it would amount to something in the way of healing.
because the news item made darn tootin' sure her ardent religiosity was highlighted. my point is, I would think the average Christian is doing well to be average (what with being humans and all), but to be SO Christian, and SO flawed (in a particularly unchristian way, if Dave is any authority) seems to want explaining. I know what it is, and you know what it is, but our friendly theists might have more to say on the matter

Buttock implants ? (*)(*)(*)(*)ing buttock implants? I'm torn between hoping young girls don't read that, and hoping they do.
