I'm not on Parler. Where do we draw the line between free speech and incitement? How well did Facebook and Twitter police BLM/Antifa accounts:
'Its a free market, get your own platform.' *gets own platform* 'Ban it!' Hopefully we can at least agree now that its not a free market. (what does Fascism mean if not this?)
Really? So Apple should is going to be nationalized? People who like Parler can't just buy it themselves? Or just build their own?
No, he got someone else's platform. If he had his own platform they couldn't ban it. Your own platform means your own server, hooked in by its own cables or whatever you hook into the Internet with. Hard as this seems to be for you guys to grasp Google is a PRIVATE COMPANY, so is the App store. As I understand it, you can actually buy several illegal things, and even illegal services, over the "dark web". Now do you think Murder Incorporated should be able to compel Google to carry them?
Facebook and Twitter are private companies. Google and Apple are private companies. Mastercard and Stripe are private companies. All of whom have a right to refuse service for any reason.
Oh, right, I forgot I was talking to folks that think the stuff that parlor doesn't take down is somehow worse than the stuff that twit and fb leave up. I'll repost my comment when the tech lords get parlor deleted entirely claiming 'incitement' and see if by then you still think this isn't just more big business co-opting govt to eliminate the competition for them.
What did you guys think would happen? Trump threatened to repeal Section 230 which would make Big Tech liable for what's posted on their servers. You guys want them to let users post hate speech while making them liable for damages that happen from that very same hate speech. C'mon.
I think what really happened is that Google removed parler from the app store. That doesn't mean that the platform is suspended. It just makes it a little bit harder to install. For the record: I am against this move. The more you try to remove these extremists from the regular platforms, they more they'll flock to shadow platforms and the dark web.
The left will work to remove all opposition, little by little. Whoever didn't see this coming is a fool. Wonder what's next?
That’s wrong. I think censoring Trump is wrong too, especially considering that other controversial leaders don’t seem to be targeted. Rules should apply to all. PS - the app is just an extension of the website. A well designed website can function just like an app.
One poster started over 30 threads pushing the lies that the election was stolen, you didn't say a word about that did you? that was just 1 poster, not counting all the other nutters and the countless threads they started.
Welcome to the new democratic controlled country. Be careful what you say, or you will be silenced. Who didn't see this coming?
It hasn't been 'banned', it's still there operating like always, poorly, but it's still there. Google doesn't have that power. All Google did it was remove it from their store. Stop playing the victim and for gods sakes learn what 'fascist' means.
They only know and understand what their media tells them they know and understand. Outside of that, its a black void.
Not at all, I can only imagine the reaction from the left had this been the other way. I'm just pointing out the reality of what's to come.
