As a gun owning ( I own 27) card carrying NRA member I'd be fine with confiscating guns from someone making gun violence threats like the recent school shooter did in Florida. It would have to be explicit threats so that the law couldn't be abused to take guns from people with "cold dead hands" bumper stickers but I think it could save lots of lives and be no infringement on gun ownership or the second amendment. Where am I wrong here or right here? Would this satisfy the anti gun people a bit or not. Would it enrage the pro gun people? There is a similar law already in a few states.

"Five states allow guns to be seized before someone can commit violence"

"California, Washington, Oregon, Indiana and Connecticut have statutes that can be used to temporarily take guns away from people a judge deems a threat to themselves or others. Lawmakers in 18 other states — including Florida — plus the District of Columbia have proposed similar measures."

Depends on what the agenda is of the judge involved. Personally I would prefer a judge put on the bench by a conservative over that of a raging unhinged leftie.

Hell yes. Make a threat with a gun, confiscate the gun(s) and put them in the pokey 6 months to cool them off.

Make a threat to blow an institution or occupied building up, put them in the pokey 10 years to put their fuse out -- including the students who threaten to blow up schools weekly.

WHy in the HELL would any sane person own 27 friggin guns?

How many more do you need?

And don't even pretend you wouldn't scream bloody murder if the government started confiscating guns based on on line comments

A well written law that explicitly defined gun threats would take a liberal judge out of the equation

Line comments that are threats with a gun -- hunt them down, confiscate the gun, lock them up at least three months.

The two kids who threatened to blow up a local high school last week, lock them up ten years.

Lock violent people and kids up, start taking violence seriously in this country.

Not comments, explicit threats. As for my 27 guns it just sort of happened over nearly 70 years of life. Some where my dad's and even his dad's. Most are for hunting and different hunting requires different guns. One is for CC. A few are just for fun like my 22 pistol. Fun plinker.

I have a 22 K-17 S&W revolver 6" barrel full lug with combat grips and target trigger. Rare now, worth $1000. Cheap target practice and heavy enough to keep you in shape for a 44.

So far I have no semiautomatic weapons, but maybe it's time.

Why would any sane person own 27 Hummels? What business is it of yours to whine about what someone collects?

Why would anyone complain about taking away firearms from someone making threats to use them unless it is abused?

AR-15s don’t. My guns have killed fewer people than Ted Kennedy’s car has.

Shoot someone in the throat with a 22 short and they just might spit it up and proceed to give the shooter a beating. But even a 22 is no toy.

I think this makes sense. People who are violent should not have guns and making a comment to that effect should cause you to lose that right. But courts are to clogged to do this and in most states (like Florida) I don't see the voting public being willing to give this authority to law enforcement without a court decision. Suspicion of government is too high.

To an extent any compromise you make towards anti-gun people won't appease them. It won't satisfy them.
Indeed it will only encourage them go further.

Here in the UK threatening someone with a gun, fake or real carries a five year sentence.
The purpose of this law is to be able to prosecute people for stick ups. Armed robbery that involved no actual use of a weapon just the threat of one.
And control is so tight here that I wouldn't be comfortable threatening people verbally either.

I have been arrested for this and I have had my guns temporarily seized for this.

I sort of feel that this law can be used perniciously. Not in the spirit it was intended.

At the same time I do strongly feel that the US has a massive gun control problem. And that something drastic should be done and that sooner or later, something drastic will be done. Change it is a coming.

    27 Hummels?

I think that might give someone room for concern.

Florida has been run for 16 years by Republicans. How many liberal justices are there?

Law proposed in OP doesn't seem drastic it seems effective.

Why is that pertinent? Bees kill far more Americans than terrorist in most years. Should we fight a war against them? Guns aren't cars and they have nothing to do with each other or the debate on regulation.

About 8K are murders and ~10% of those are purchased legally and a very small minority of those are by rifles and a minority of rifles used are AR-15s.

Unfortunately as we have seen in Sandy Hook, Vegas,Orlando, and now in Parkland, those rifles can do an ENORMOUS amount of damage...
