Now, this is an Australian paper that is calling this bullying but it may not be viewed as such in America. I would just like to see if people agreed, disagreed or simply thought there should be more talk and less................. showmanship? Boasting? Testosterone?

The group was called open carry Texas. They are a pro 2nd amendment group that notified police that they were going to gather at this location. The group was made up of families with children, and the event was overseen by local police. There was never any intimidation or threats. I will post the pictures of the group if I can find them.

Intended to intimidate? Probably not, they were probably trying to show there were good gun owners. Did they intimidate? Yes. Fear is not caused by their intentions, rather it is caused by what people think of their actions. Why did they need to bring firearms in the first place if they were there to support the 2nd amendment? Surely signs would have worked just as well, or better yet organize an actual demonstration, not stand outside a cafe for 4 people who disapprove of what you do.

    A real intimidating looking group......

Remember the police were there, and were interacting with these folks like they were old friends.

Mothers demand action is an anti rights collection of scumbags who are also known as astro-turf. at worst what the pro rights group was trying to do was upset a bunch of (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s who are trying to limit our rights. they gun owners realize that many of the anti gun nuts have issues with bowel control when exposed to patriotic citizens being armed.

anti gun nut cases like Mom's demand gun bans know damn well that gun owners aren't going to hurt them. If they truly believed all the stuff they say about gun owners was really true, they would be too terrified to engage in the crap that they say about gun owners.

we really don't care what a paper in Australia calls it. they are a mouthpiece for a government that treated its honest gun owners poorly

The news article inaccurately claims that the state of Texas is an open carry state. This is factually incorrect. Currently the only legal form of carrying a handgun is concealed with a permit. Firearms such as rifles and shotguns can legally be carried openly because there is no way of concealing them. However this fact would do nothing to prevent the police officers present from arresting anyone if they believed a crime was being committed.

This was neither bullying, nor intimidation. If the group mothers demand action feels uncomfortable with encountering those they protest against, then they should not lobby and protest in the first place. Such activities are bound to upset individuals somewhere.

The message that was conveyed by the group was: "You're trying to restrict the Rights of honest hard working Americans because one guy went bonkers".
Would it have made any difference if they showed up carrying hammers and saws? Not to them.

As near as I can tell you have the wrong incident

Remembering there were only four people from MDA in the coffee shop with 40 people brandishing weapons outside

    - - - Updated - - -

Is that justification for forty people to harass and intimidate four?

I am looking at it in context of appropriate response

We have four women meeting in a coffee shop - they may or may not have been part of MDA but someone tells someone who tells rent a mob that is who they are In response FORTY (ten times the number) of ARMED and visibly armed people turn up targeting these women and I do not think they would have been speaking politely with them do you?

We have fourty citizens meeting outside a coffee shop - they may or may not have been part of open carry Texas but someone tells someone who tells someone that they are going to counter demonstrate an anti-rights group that is who they are In response four (one, two, three, four) of the anti self-defense rethoric in response to these women and I do not think the anti-rights group was speaking nicely of the peaceful demonstrators that are exercising rights that are enshrined and secured by the founders of the country.

I can play this game all day sister. Spin all you want, but you are on the aide of anti-rights, not us.

Forty ARMED citizens = now if they were part of the government would you have the same response?

Straw man. One group is exercising their rights and so is another in this case. If the groups became violent, there would be a whole different argument going on right now.

For now, I leave you with this picture. Rights are to be protected, no matter how hateful and disrespectful they may be. You may not like the message or the messenger, but the right itself should be enshrined for everyone to see and utilize when they want to.

The picture I posted is from this exact coffee shop event. I've had the photo from way back when this first made news here back in 2013. Sorry if your news is not accurate. Like I said, there was no intimidation, the police and the open carry folks were all smiles and friendly banter.

It was the MDA women that tried to make this out to be a frightening experience to further their agenda. Claiming there were 40 threatening crazies, turns out there were about 25 men, women, and children. No one here bought it and it completely backfired on them as everyone saw it for what it really was.

Not a strawman but a hypothetical there is a difference

Man but does that policeman look like he would just love to flick that baton backwards and whack that twonk of a numbnuts KKK member over the head!!

But underpinning all of this - is the unbelievable lengths I am seeing people here go to to try and justify an armed response of 10 times the number of people sitting at the coffee shop. Four people - not even visibly protesting just sitting and talking and FORTY people showed up waving weapons - yeah that is not bullying at all!!!!

Do you not believe that people should have the free exercise of speech? Since this is happening in the United States, under the pure of the SCOTUS, they have opinion ed that speech doesn't have to be verbal or written, but can be symbolic in nature.

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gitlow_v._New_York

Symbolic speech can be just as powerful, or even more powerful, than written word. You can see that above with just the two pictures in a post this page. Same group, same setting, taken from different angles, can convey a totally different message.

I don't doubt that the writer of the article injected their own bis into their article since it is almost impossible to not.

Of course you don't believe it. Your anti gun bias is so strong that it prevents you from being objective.

Look at the photo in the usa today article that you cited. Compare it to to the photo I posted in post #14.
    Same photo!
Your article says 40 armed men.
Count how many men, women, and children. That pretty much shows the bias of the article. Like I said, this was an entirely friendly event as these family folks and the police were joking and smiling. Don't believe everything you read when it comes to firearms and news. Our media likes to spin toward anti gun sentiment.

I think it proves a point that guns in the hands of law abiding citizens do no harm. These women sought to ban these types of weapons because 'they kill people' but in the hands of these people, no one was hurt. Open carry is more of a political statement than anything.

How were they intimidated when police were there? Did they really think they were going to get shot in front of police... And their children?

Open carry Texas is a well known group. They are known for being peaceful, because their cause is to let the public see that guns being carried do not have to be threatening. They want to desensitize people who are afraid of guns. They try to be the opposite of threatening. You saw the photos and article, and you can't argue that the article wasn't biased.
