Tony Robbins, in his book, Unlimited Power, said there are two kinds of people in the world, lumpers and splitters. Lumpers see things as the same, or in the same category, especially people, that everyone is alike. Splitters see things as different, or in completely different categories, especially people, that no two people are alike. Lumpers will tell you Coke & Pepsi are just the same while splitters will tell you they are completely different. I wondered immediately if lumpers tend to be Democrats and splitters tend to be Republicans.

Even identical twins have differences, but similarities can't be completely disregarded.

    Joseph Campbell, "The Hero's Journey".
People by nature, not nurture, develop common myths although never in contact with one another.
    Similarities of nature.

And no nation does Halloween like :flagus:
You can claim ancient Rome had it. The Irish. etc.
But, without a gov't holiday or church involvement, :flagus: have created the second spendingest holiday after X-Mas.
Other nations have made an effort to observe :flagus: style Halloween but, they fizzled out.
We celebrate Halloween and keep it holy, or unholy as the reader prefers.

Does anyone know that Babylon 5 episode that was more like Dia de Meurtos?
Is Dia de Meurtos = Halloween? No! But, it is an observance of a time to be closest to the spirits of the deceased. A similarity of nature only. Not one holiday morphing into another.

    This line
Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic,
regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.
was paraphrased from one of the most :flagus: Halloween Events in history.

From the beginning to 1:30 pretty well cover it.

But unlike Martians, it is harder to identify a :flagcanada: as they walk among us, unnoticed.
And as we go about our trivial lives and mundane events, they . . . . .

Although Martians did try make drones of all of us back in 1953

There should be a new holiday, a liberal-leftist holiday - Hellowhine.
It should be celebrated all year long.

I LOL'd at this reasoning. Looking on this board, I dare say that the Republicans tend to be lumpers as well. If you disagree with their position, you are automatically label a "leftist", and variance to this effect. Or..BLM is violent, therefore all leftists are violent and so are the Democrats. Lumpers, the lot of them.

On the OP however, why would a non Christian celebrate Halloween? And...how did the tradition of ghost and ghouls, and monsters came about to be so on Halloween? Many Christian schools I know, outlaw such costumes.

I would say it has more to do with the attitude toward people in general and not the attitude toward the other side of the political aisle. When you're dealing with the attitude toward the other side of the political aisle, you're automatically going into an us vs. them mentality, on the left and the right. But when dealing with people in general, or objects, or thoughts, or philosophies, it seems to me at least that the left tends to lump everyone or everything into the same category while the right tends to split everyone and everything into smaller and smaller groups or even unique spots. You won't find Republicans saying, "There's no difference between men and women!" You won't find Republicans saying, "There's no difference between Christianity and Islam!" You won't find Republicans saying, "There's no difference between whites and blacks!" You won't find Republicans saying, "There's no difference between homosexuals and straight people!" That's all on the Democrats.

That is the wonderfulness of Halloween.
Totally a creation of the :flagus: people.
Not the gov't. There is no gov't holiday.
    Not any church or religion.
And why I was soliciting the feelings of ferigners about this :flagus: holiday.

Moi denies it is an out growth of any other cultures' holiday.
Not the evolution from Irish, Celt/Kelt, Roman, Sumarian, etc.
ref.: Joseph Campbell. The Hero's Journey.
Peoples never in communication develop the same mythology.

I have known Conservative Jewish families who deny their children Santa Claus
    but, celebrate Halloween.
It don't make sense, do it.

Hey, ferigners ! :nana: It's another Halloween comin'.
The second spendingist event in :flagus:
How do you feel about :flagus: Halloween?
Some may claim it is from this or that ancient holiday.
Moi says it's just :flagus: prompted by no nation's culture.
I always liked this :flagus: interpretation too.

    Thoughts.
    Domestic or ferign.

There was a Babylon 5 episode that had an alien holiday of the spirit and material world intersection and those on the alien side had quite a holiday. Anyone remember it?
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_Dead_(Babylon_5)
As close to :flagus: Halloween as Dia de muertos.
When the universe of the departed and the living come into closest approximation for communication

We are coming upon Halloween, 2018.
Please do not bore the group with Keltic or them or those interpretation.
This is about :flagus: Halloween and WHY does it sit so well with so many peoples?
    Calling Joseph Campbell.
Maybe he will upload as the convergence of his universe and that of "us" approximates.

God Bless America and keep our Halloween and Santa Claus sacred
for which we have a Thanksgiving
    , another glutinous holiday.

To the churches, Halloween is a pagaen holiday and they refused to let their flocks to dress up in costumes on church's grounds where they would be safe. Who knew conservatives are such party poopers.

That is a pretty recent phenomena.
I'm sure there were always a few such extremest.
In recent years there has been less notice of them.

The Jewish families that deny their children Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny
but celebrate Halloween have always been a mystery to me.
And no one, in reasonable numbers protest, Thanksgiving. Another :flagus: Holiday.

Hope to see some costumes such as

That's an ironic considering the right wingers on this board tend to lump all democrats/progressives/leftists/socialists/marxists into one category. Nah, they ain't no splitters.

Some years ago I knew upper middle class Russians in Moscow
who were witnessing Halloween parties and children might trick or treat
within their residential building. Not on the streets.

It seems the Russian attempt to adopt :flagus: Halloween just didn't work out.

Anyone know of any ferigners having Halloween Parties?
They can't because they cannot comprehend it as a FREE people can. :woot: :flagus :salute:
:worship: Joseph Campbell and find Halloween in yourself. It is that simple

    The Raven,
    by Edgar Allan Poe, :flagus:
    A good reading too

I'm also pondering the influences of Washington Irving on Halloween.
Both :flagus: authors wrote of the spooky in the mid-early 1800's
Irving's influences were said to come from Dutch ancestry settlers in the Hudson Valley of New York.
I wonder if any other nation had spooky tales authors then. German. French. Dutch. Brit and theirs.

    Halloween, a uniquely :flagus: holiday
and the second most spending holiday after Christmas .

Yeah, soaping car windows, throwing a trashcan lid or two. What bad asses we were. ;) Although there was one time me and my buddy did egg the house of a lady who gave us grief every time we walked by her house with our BB guns.
