New Orleans is in the process of removing all of it's Confederate references and statues from the city. Now this story from Phoenix Arizona.

    https://www.usnews.com/news/best-st...ers-remove-confederate-monuments-from-Arizona.

Is this still America? Doesn't this sound a lot like what the Taliban and Isis are doing overseas? They are trying to erase history in every city that they get control of.

History repeats itself when people forget the past. If we remove the monuments from Phoenix, then, what next? As distasteful as some of the things that happened in our past; it is part of our history. Will we go to Georgia and blow up Stone Mountain? Should we remove all monuments that commemorate our victories over the English, Mexico, the Indians, etc. After all, I'm sure they offend someone. Martin Luther King was a known Communist and yet just about every city has a monument or a street named after him. Are we going to tear down all buildings with the Trump name after he leaves office? We are what we are; good and bad. Shall we confiscate all photos and books that offend people? Your victories today may be your defeats tomorrow.

What makes you think the crime blacks have been perpetrating on America the last 60 or so years isn't terrorism?

"When you're out numbered, you lose elections. When you lose elections, you lose power. When you lose power, you lose control. When you lose control, the nation is no longer yours. When the nation is no longer yours, it belongs to another. When the nation belongs to another, it starts idolizing its own people as its national heroes, not yours. It starts building monuments to them, not you. It starts putting their own faces on their currency. It starts forging its own allies, and making its own enemies." - Teutorian

It's not just Confederates, either. Monuments to famous racists such as Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and the rest would eventually come down, as well.

I didn't say it wasn't. If they get all the power, who is to say, they won't build a monument to Michael Brown or Travon Martin. I hear O.J. may be making parole. A monument dedication could be in the offing.

A community has a right to determine what they memorialize. If the community doesn't want it they shouldn't be forced to keep it.

Personally I think they are a good reminder of what war brings. Then I live a 10 miles from a civil war battlefield so memorials are everywhere.

I've found that when it comes to journalism whenever an article's title poses a question the answer is usually no.

Since you'd be one of the facilitators in that scenario, why don't you tell me? Let's assume all of us right-wingers lose power and your black Democrat coalition comes screaming in your face about how upsetting the Washington monument is, due to Washington's unambiguous racism and usage of slavery. As a white progressive, are you going to tell those blacks "too bad"? No. You'd join in with them and declare that the monument is an insult to their community, and would use the power of Government to take it down. Admit it.

Isn't Stone Mountain the KKK celebration point?

They wouldn't have to tear the Washington Monument down. They could just update it and name it for Rodney King or Al Sharpton. Let's be reasonable here...

    Stone Mountain Indeed...

The revival of the Ku Klux Klan was emboldened by the release of D. W. Griffith's Klan-glorifying film The Birth of a Nation,[8] and coincided with the August 1915 lynching of Leo Frank. On November 25 of the same year, a small group, including fifteen robed and hooded "charter members" of the new organization, met at Stone Mountain to create a new iteration of the Klan. They were led by William J. Simmons, and included two elderly members of the original Klan. As part of their ceremony, they burned a crude cross.[9]

Fundraising for the monument resumed in 1923. In October of that year, Venable granted the Klan easement with perpetual right to hold celebrations as they desired.[10] The influence of the UDC continued, in support of Mrs. Plane's vision of a carving explicitly for the purpose of creating a Confederate memorial. The UDC established the Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial Association (SMCMA) for fundraising and on-site supervision of the project. Venable and Gutzon Borglum, who were both closely associated with the Klan, arranged to pack the SMCMA with Klan members.[11] The SMCMA, along with the United Daughters of the Confederacy continued fundraising efforts. Of the $250,000 raised, part came from the federal government, which in 1925 issued special fifty-cent coins with the soldiers Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson on them, but would not allow the politician Jefferson Davis to be included.[12] When the state completed the purchase in 1960, it condemned the property to remove Venable's agreement to allow the Klan perpetual right to hold meetings on the premises.[11]

Which buildings have Trump's muddied name on it other than those that are privately owned?

Why is it a stupid comparison? Political correctness, in this country, has reached a fever pitch this year. Free speech is constantly under attack. Any descent against the narrow minded is met with shouting down, violence or in some cases lawsuits. A country that can pass a law and call it a hate crime isn't far from anarchy. A country that uses it's own government to spy on it's citizens isn't far from being a totalitarian state. A country that tries to bury its past has no future. A society so insensitive to opposing views that safe zones are created to protect the "brainwashed" have already lost the argument.

The world is full of examples of countries that somehow lost their way. A few, from the past, I can think of are Cambodia, Viet Nam, North Korea, China, Russia, Japan, Cuba. Look at what is going on in Venezuela at present.

The question is not do you approve or disapprove but should all vestige's of our past be erased and hidden from the future. America had slavery in the past but it is only one of many countries that did so. There are black countries that also had slavery in their past. As a country, we acknowledge, there was slavery. Many white and black Americans died to overturn it. We should celebrate that we are all free people.
