Have We Forgotten the True Value of 'In God We Trust'?

    “One culturally significant matter that flew under the radar late in 2023 was the story of a school board in Colorado voting to approve a resolution encouraging its schools to display the national motto of "In God We Trust" in classrooms, along with other "historical displays depicting the founding and heritage of America."

    In a time where Christianity, as well our original national values seem to be under constant attack from both anti-Christian and anti-American radicals, the vote, which took place only days before schools would close for Christmas, displays a positive example that hopefully other school districts nationally will follow this year.

    "In God We Trust" — These four words, emblazoned on our currency and enshrined as the national motto of the United States, serve as a reminder of the foundational role that Christianity has played in shaping our nation. Yet, despite this motto, it seems that as a society, we often fail to uphold the values it represents…
    …As we strive to build a better society, let us not forget the words inscribed on our currency – "In God We Trust." These words serve as a timeless reminder of the transcendent values that have guided us through times of trial and tribulation.     In God we trust. Our fine national motto and a true statement. It is a statement of our nations culture and heritage. It defines what and what we are as a nation. It’s all about how we coexist in this country no matter our differences.

    Holy crap - the same people who vote for Trump - the Poster Boy for the Seven Deadly Sins - are pretending they're Christian and that they
    believe in the teaching of Christ.

    In God we trust. One nation under God. We must return to the intent of the founders and the values and traditions based on their founding that we have wandered away from. The author is right and makes some great pointes to support his opinion.

    That motto has been around only since 1956. I prefer the previous one, E Pluribus Unum, but of course, that's not possible with the fascist movement the right has adopted as Amerikan.

    The intent of our Founding Fathers was that we stand behind Thor, cause he's a cool God. We have wandered too far from the Halls of Odin.

    Honestly, if that works for you to fulfill those values, then by all means pop that in your religious charter school lapel. I doubt it makes a difference though. It's just a symbol. Making the effort to behave like that is more critical.

    in God we trust is a recent change, we should change it back - we do not need to worship FSM on our money or pledge

    It's always hilarious when pious religious folks express their support for Donald Trump. Just when you think you've seen all the hypocrisy there is to see in the world, along comes this to show you that you ain't seen nothin yet.

    Jesus Christ would vomit in his mouth at the thought of Donald Trump getting support from those who identify themselves as his namesake. He'd probably be more willing to walk the desert with Lucifer again than have to spend a moment with Trump or the hypocrites who support him in his name.

    I would help if the Christian right would try to make the church more inclusive by reaching out to the non-believers, and projecting a positive message of inclusiveness and acceptance. In contrast, they are judgmental and generally disapprove (to use a politically correct word) of the ones who are not in their in-group. And then, they want to shove their "values" down everyone's throat by using government force, as we can see in Florida with their anti-woke agenda.

    If you want to project Christian "values", maybe you have to start with your own posts. Maybe start with an olive branch instead of calling the ones you don't like "radicals" who supposedly constantly attack you.

    There are too many non-Christians in the USA to keep pushing this narrative, sorry. As a Christian myself I even know this to be true.
    I didn't see Trump mentioned in the OP. Are you in the wrong thread? You know what else would make Jesus vomit? Race based college admissions. You know what else would make him vomit? Sex changing a little boy to a girl because they expressed interest in playing with a barbie doll for a few minutes. I could think of about 1000 other things that would probably make him vomit and about 996 of them come straight from THE LEFT

    Actually the motto was introduced during the Civil War in 1864 on the Two Cent Piece. The other motto that was under consideration was "God our trust."

    In 1866, the Government added it to all coin designs which had enough room to accommodate it.

    The motto, "In God we trust," was added to the paper money designs in the mid 1950s.

    and we all should live as God has instructed and not use God as a tool to condemn God's children or persecute others.

    And they start to lose those rights when they start shooting people, like they did yesterday in Kansas City. Repeat offenders are in the same position, regardless of their gender or skin color.

    Every nation needs a moral compass. This one began with Christianity. It is better than most. Although I am not a religious person, it’s easy to see the fundamental good in Christian values. The trouble starts when religious dogma gets involved.

    The countries that don’t have moral core values are trouble. That includes China, North Korea and Russian. They have the Marxist moral compass, which is no morals at all.

    Iran is using Islam to push it’s evil agenda. I don’t know enough about Islam to know if the Iranian version is basically perverted, but it’s bad without a doubt.
