Even at the conclusion, it would be difficult to claim that more than a 1/3rd of the people actively approved of it, and, in order to get it ratified, threats of invasion and blockades against Rhode Island were required.
Many, many times. When I was a History/Government teacher, I taught it to my student line by line. Went over the Federalist and Ant-Federalist papers as well.
In fact, it took them two documents (see Articles of Confederation which were tossed out because they left the fed government too weak and ineffectual) plus the knowledge that they weren't creating a perfect document thus the ability to amend.
