Maybe Russia has it and is going to destroy Ukraine and NATO with it!

    https://www.npr.org/2023/09/18/1200093822/missing-f-35-fighter-jet-south-carolina

Thankfully, the pilot of an F-35 jet safely ejected — but in a bit of a mystery, the world's most advanced fighter jet is nowhere to be found. The U.S. military wants help finding the plane, which is believed to have crashed.

The unusual events took place Sunday north of Charleston, S.C., where a pilot from Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501 ejected from their jet — specifically, an F-35B Lightning II.

In a statement to NPR, the Marine Corps did not specify whether the jet's transponder was on, or whether it was carrying any armaments.

Apparently must had kicked on the stealth mode when he ejected...

There is allot on wonkiness to this story... You'd think they would have every alpha bet agency scrambled, trying to discern what happened...

That's what happens when you make the world's best "stealth" fighter. You can't find it when it comes up missing.

I overheard a radio report explaining that the plane's fly-by-wire could conceivable keep the aircraft straight and level so long as the airframe is intact. The auto pilot gyroscope holds everything in place at 1g.

I can't verify that but it is plausible considering that these modern fighter jets ain't being controlled by the pilot but are instead controlled by a computer controlled by the pilot. The pilot can't even fly the plane without the fly-by-wire computer control. Its beyond the limits of human dexterity.

I read somewhere the next gen of fighter jets will be pilotless. They have to electronically limit the F35's movements to not knock out the pilot with g's as they can maneuver quicker than the pilot can take.

As long as the airframe is intact and there is fuel in the tanks.

The last Navy F-35 crash I can remember is the one that crashed on the deck of a carrier with the pilot cursing the shots he had been forced to take. He told controllers he felt like he had been hit in the chest with a baseball bat.

I looked around my yard, and I can't find one. What more do you want?

It was a young pilot. It was a premature ejection.

    looks like they found it

"F-35 Jet Mystery Ends as Wreckage Is Found"

    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/18/us/missing-f35-military-jet-charleston.html

"Based on the missing plane’s last known position, the base had been focusing on an area around Lake Moultrie, a large lake about 33 miles north of Charleston, and Lake Marion, the state’s largest lake, in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration, Joint Base Charleston said.

Williamsburg County, where the debris was found, is not far from those lakes."

There is a recent incident where the plane landed and started bucking forcing the pilot to eject.

Yes, I think I saw that one too. Filmed from on the other side of a chain link fence. I think it was a test flight at General Dynamics in Fort Worth?

Your opinion. Not even a preliminary report has come out.

Premature ejection was not a serious opinion.

Maybe Chinese hackers ejected him remotely  Or....maybe AI it trying to destroy out air power by ejecting all the pilots

I can tell you what I don’t want and that is a $140M aircraft missing. A wingman was flying along side the F35 when it ejected. The wingman should have followed the disabled F35 and keeping in touch with ground control.

I heard the transponder was not working and the AP was engaged. The F35 has 4 tabs installed near the vertical stabilizers when flying in friendly air skies so radar can see them clearly. Apparently this aircraft did not have them installed.

It was my sarcasm you didn’t catch. Do you have something constructive to add to this thread?

Did earlier, but I suppose "constructive" can be subjective.
Typed out sarcasm is often mis-construed.

It’s being reported the pilot bailed out because of weather.

    Two questions:

Wasn’t this a all weather fighter?

Why didn’t fly above the weather?
