I am a white male, heterosexual, atheistic.

I started voting in 1980 and voted for Reagan in 80 and 84.
By the time of the election in 1988 I had deconverted from Christianity and realized the threat that the Religious Right represented and started voting Libertarian.

I voted Libertarian up to the 2016 election. I voted Libertarian in that election because I was convinced that the country was not so stupid as to elect a criminally insane game show host as President.

    I was wrong.

I know that my single vote did not change the outcome of that election but after four years of Trump I have decided that I can no longer vote in such a way that helps the GOP in any way.

In 2020, for the first time in 40 years of voting, I voted for a Democrat for President. As long as the GOP continues to kowtow to Trump (or Trump wannabes) I will continue to vote for Democrats.

Congratulations Republicans, you have done something the Democrats were never able to do. Turn me into a Democrat.

Picture of me from Naval Nuclear Power School.

I am back row with the full beard, a little left of center.

Funny-- your curveball threw the first three respondents, who bid welcome to a "well known member," including one who, being a moderator, pointed you towards the rules. But why should Introductions be limited to just New Members, anyway?

I supported Reagan in '80, but was too young to vote-- I voted for him in '84. I soon made a similar, 3rd Party turn, not to the Libertarians but to Perot, in '92, and then to Nader, several times. While I must clearly lean further left than you, I only last year registered as Democrat, as well, and cannot say that the current, MAGA dominated, Trumpublican Party, had nothing to do with that.

In religion, there is a similar parallel, though when I decoupled from Catholicism and, ultimately, from Christianity, I was drawn to a Pantheistic perspective, not an Atheistic one. Now, I feel a bit more Agnostic: but not to the point of believing that it is impossible for men to be correct about anything of the spiritual realm, and so for it to be not worth even speculating, but only impossible for us to ever know if we are correct. For the most part, I would guess we are probably wrong.

Hopefully not to the degree, though, such that God will turn out to be "a criminally insane, game show host."
