Hiroshima: BBC History of World War II. This is a documentary on Netflix streaming.

At a point where they acted out a written report of a mother abandoning her young 4 year old daughter, as she burned alive, slowly, trapped inside a burning house, I turned it off.

I am a history student. I am always reading, watching videos. Not a fan of entertainment, prefer to learn something.

As a nation, what have we learned about August 6, 1945?

What have I learned? My personal belief, we were wrong to bomb Japan the way we did. We did it twice. It was the equivalent of bringing a basketball to a badminton match. No warning, and millions died, in the blast, subsequent fires, or long tern health problems. How many millions of people were in burn centers, centers with no equipment?

We could have asked them to evacuate before we dropped the bombs. We could have blown up a small island with no people as a demonstration.

I know, I know, Pearl Harbor. Pearl my a$$. Ask any 8th grade social studies student in Hawaii public school, if Pearl Harbor was a surprise attack? Washington knew about Pearl, all weekend, and just sat on the information. Washington wanted in the war, and used Pearl to get a reason to enter the war.

Reason in hand, we settled the score, a score, we helped do to ourselves to a large measure, on August 6, 1945.

I am not proud of the USA for how we got into WWII, or how we got out of it.

I want to love my country, apple pie, and all that, but history is written by the side that wins. In this case, the real truth, many of us never bother to dig a little deeper to find it out.

The Military Industrial Complex makes its living by inventing, then working in wars. In peace time, no money is to be made. We are living in times of false wars, trumped up wars, , , , , , with no end in sight, till we as Americans rise up, and say no more useless wars.

Was it ok to use conventional bombing?

Why would you tell them the target? They would be more likely to be there waiting for you with everything they had.

And this belongs in the conspiracy forum it looks. No one knew about Pearl Harbor. Attacking Pearl Harbor made no sense, which is one of the reasons why the Japanese attacked Pearl. It was crazy.

And where are you getting your millions of deaths from for the atomic attacks? It was 140 000 in the blasts with no new deaths, or just a few, after December, 1945. They were airbursts which limited fall out, radiation on the ground, etc.

For someone claiming to be a history student you sure don't know much.

Maybe you need to read about the fire bombings of Tokyo, somehow I think killing a million Japanese by burning them to death over the course of 30 nights seems to be much worse. Maybe, you could study the treatment of the Chinese at the hands of the Japanese during world war 2. I think you might get the picture, wether the bombs needed to be dropped, I do not know, and personally I do not care, it was war, it was a war to end all wars, and while it hasn't stopped smaller wars, to this point we have not been drawn into a world war.

I think you need to realize that war is hell, war is brutal, and you will never be able to make a moral sense out of war. The nuclear bombs were neither less nor more moral than every other type of bomb dropped. Everyone wants to say the long term effects, all ordinance has long term effects. From land mines that kill to this day, to unexploded ordinance, to chemical warfare, everything has a lasting effect.

The military industrial complex does need to be reigned in, we should stop interjecting ourselves in others problems, but until we elect someone who can not be bought, this will continue.
