Not sure if it promotes a stereotype, headline could have been worded better, but you can be sure a hateful minority of people in the UK take advantage of it to promote their ideas.
Good, these people will be nothing but a boon to us, like the Asians we took in after Idi Amin threw them out. This is the true legacy of empire.
Let me point out the money that was used to buy these properties ultimately came from China. Hong Kong owner sells their property in Hong Kong. An investor from the Chinese mainland buys it. The Hong Kong owner then takes that money to buy a housing property in London. And the money ultimately came from London to begin with. Do people have no idea what long-term trade deficits do? Are they that stupid? When you give your nation's money away to another country, that country then takes that money and buys your country's capital.
Asians are buying up property all over the West. They very will soon be the majority of Landlords - in Europe, America, the UK, and elsewhere. In my country, in capital cities, it's already far more likely that your landlord will be a non-white migrant, than they will be a locally born Anglo-Christian. Anglo-Christians are increasingly becoming life renters, and migrants are increasingly becoming property owners - and that's really a reflection of the very different cultures involved. Anglo Christians simply won't live somewhere less salubrius than they deem themselves entitled to, so rather than do the hard yards of working their way up the property ladder, they sacrifice security and rent. Migrants will happily buy any crappy property in any crappy location, as long as it gets their toe in the door. They're prepared to do the hard yards. They've earned any privilege resulting.
A Vietnamese couple came to the U.S. as boat people after the war and moved to a small city not far away from me. The man worked as a dishwasher in a restaurant and the woman worked as a seamstress. After years they had saved enough to buy a food cart and began selling Vietnamese egg rolls to the white collar workers out for lunch. To make a long story short, they now own two Vietnamese restaurants and employ about 50 people. The woman greets customers at the door of their original restaurant wearing a formal gown. This is why people emigrate to the U.S. Doing the hard yards can result in success.
Exactly. There are no obstacles to success but yourself, and that's the ultimate equality. It means that ANYONE can get ahead - regardless of race, creed, class, or background.
