I'm sure many of us wish we had these problems. I must admit that the scale of this profligacy is somewhat astonishing - let's all shed a tear for Her Majesty: Of course, she could just sell the ol' digs...
LOL - By the looks of things it appears that somebody's head needs to roll. Maybe if Liz was forced to shack up with some chavs for a week she'd get a handle on her finances.
Someone ran off with the Queen's money. The royal family soon to go bankrupt... It turns out this is how England throws off the last hooks of their figure head monarchy.
Nothing makes an American more sick than to have to hear about...OHHHH....POOR QUEEN! The Royals are broke!! Hell...they could sell a few pieces of gold leafed 600 year old furniture and make a fortune!!! Time for British Royalty to GO! AboveAlpha
Funny you should say that. If you get the opportunity, read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Queen_and_I_(novel)
If they went who would gullible American tourists come to gawp at? Keep her, we love your tourist dollars. You are beautiful people: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUdaPNXC_68
I was under the impression that the Royals were worth billions, according to press articles over the years. Aren't they still owners of massive amounts of real estate?
While I'd off her 11$ if she'd swear on a rack of Glenfiddich . . . never, ever to strip down and then run in public like that anywhere . . . shudder! Lord have mercy . . . .
Yep, huge swathes of London remain Crown property and the county of Cornwall 'belongs' to Prince Charles. On paper the Queen is in fact worth billions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_Estate http://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/estates-map/
No no no.....rich ppl never count their own money for anything, their own money is irrelevant to their life's expenses, the 1 million that she's got left is the small box money for shopping and stuff.
I got fifty dollars for her if she'll persuade Justin Bieber and Lindsay Lohan to get outta the US and emigrate to Airstrip-One!
She should sell titles of nobility on Ebay. Duke Smevins has a nice ring to it, I might would buy someone a viscount title instead of naming a star after them or adopting a whale in their name or something.
Nah, because then the paparazzi would become even more intrigued by them. What's got me big time worried is that Bieber is about at the age in which the female singers begin acting super weird in order to hit the news in a huge way; like that bimbo that was doing all the rump shaking stuff on stage last year -- I honestly do forget her name. So what would be the Bieber BimBob equivalent; strip down to a Speedo display and then pretend to be shaking his 'wild-thang' on stage while singing, "Yes, I have no banana," or perhaps, "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts"? Yikes!
Oh Lord yes! She could sub-contract the job to former Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, since she's had somewhat related business experience in the field.
And her slaves (sorry the people who wipe her arse and ensure that her cutlery is perfectly placed on her banquet table) are paid minimum wage.
Really ?? that sucks...., I always thought these ppl get high pay to justify these kind of work...., perhaps they simply enjoy basking in the royal aura
They are. They are on the "civil list" which is like an allowance for nobility. The Queen's estate is worth billions, including one of the world's largest residences, the crown jewels and massive amounts of land in Scotland.
Thanks for the replies. I had thought they were living off their rents. It is pretty ridiculous to pay them a state subsidy.
No, she can't. Most royal residences like Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, St. James’s Palace, Kensington Palace and Clarence House belong to the State, not the Royal Family, so they are not theirs to sell and cannot do so. They are held in trust for future generations. You could say that these buildings are only occupied by the Royals as part of their job of being Royals. It's the same with the White House. The American President cannot sell the White House because it doesn't belong to him. He only lives in it as part of his job of being President.. The only two royal residences which are actually owned by the Royal Family, and are therefore their private residences, are Sandringham House and Balmoral Castle. Also, the title of this thread is a bit misleading. The Queen isn't down to her last million quid. According to Forbes Magazine, she is worth over £250 million. It is actually the Sovereign Grant reserves which are down to their last £1 million. The Sovereign Grant is not the Queen's personal money but is used to fund a number of official royal duties, pay the wages of household staff and maintain palaces. The Sovereign Grant, funded by the taxpayer, has been set at £36.1m for 2013/14. This is cheap - it works out at something like just 69p (the cost of a chocolate bar) per year. It is the reserves of the Sovereign Grant which are down to £1 million.
